“Someone asked me once if I knew the difference between a civilian and a citizen. I know now. A citizen has the courage to make the safety of the human race their personal responsibility.”In the 1997 film, Starship Troopers, Earth is struck by an asteroid supposedly launched by an alien race called the Arachnids. The asteroid destroys much of South America, killing millions. Earth's Federation military launches a counter attack, sending forces to Klendathu, the home of the "Bugs". Among the troops, is John "Johnny" Rico, a young infantry soldier and the star of the film. His unit, the Roughnecks, commanded by Rico's former high school teacher, Lt. Jean Rasczak, arrive to the battle to find a devastating field. The Arachnids outnumber the troops and have an enormous Tanker Bug fighting on their team that is the size of a house and spews napalm from its head. While the Tanker Bug terrorizes the troops, leaving utter chaos in its wake, Johnny sees an opportunity to even the odds. Johnny climbs a plateau in the field of battle and takes a seemingly suicidal leap onto the Tanker Bugs back and manages to blast his way through its hard outer exoskeleton. Feeling the blast, the Tanker Bug tries to buck Johnny off, making sharp turns for such a large creature. Johnny is almost forcibly dismounted, but thankfully grabs hold of the Bug just in time and is able to drop a grenade into the crater he created. He throws himself back in the knick of time before half of the Bug's back explodes in a spray of orange, gooey entrails.Chronicle Collectibles presents the Starship Troopers Tanker Bug.
