Tauriel's delicate pendant in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug was designed by Bob Buck and made by Sophie Lewis-Smith at the 3 Foot 7 Costume department. It is the only piece of jewellery worn by Tauriel the warrior elf maiden and therefore also one of few pieces of women's jewellery shown in the film.
The Cubic Zirconia stone in the centre was cut into the shape of a star for the film by Taranaki stonecutter Andrew MacKinnon. The finely wrought Sterling Silver pendant measures 0,3 cm by 1,4cm and includes a 56cm Sterling Silver chain.
Tauriel's pendant comes in a beautiful gift box made from natural Cherry timber with the logos of Weta and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. The inside bottom of the box is lined with burgundy red velvet. Like anything made from natural timber, variations in grain and colour will occur and the colour may also change over time. This is an entirely natural process.
