Karloff had previously appeared in small roles in over 40 films. But it was the role in »Frankenstein« that brought him his big breakthrough. Makeup artist Jack P. Pierce created a monster makeup for the ages, James Whale created a cinematic masterpiece and Karloff became one of the greatest icons of cinema in his role as the monster.
