20.11.2023 • THE KITBASHING COMPETITION - THE WINNERS
In 2023 the Action Figure District Forum once again held a kitbashing competition. 20 entries were in the starting blocks: historically inspired figures, characters from films and games and creations that were simply born from the imagination of the creators - or as the teaser for the competition said: A wild ride through time and space awaits you, a journey from antiquity to the Middle Ages, modern times, plus a stop in the 50s to a future far, far away. We visit Paris, the Orient, the Baltics, Middle-Earth, the Wild West, the Underworld and the Caribbean, meet extraterrestrial civilizations, go to a rock concert and watch early private television... In short: Once again the competition reflects the great diversity in the sixth scale hobby.

The competition was again divided into the disciplines Pflicht (compulsory) and Kür (freestyle). For the compulsory part the figures are photographed against a neutral background. In the freestyle section, everything goes - taking outdoor photos, working with a backdrop or staging the figures in a diorama. In addition, individual aspects of the characters are considered. There are “Oscars” for costume design, the best self-made prop, the best set design, etc.

You can find all submitted contributions in the compulsory section here:
http://forum.action-figure-district.de/viewforum.php?f=67
The Oscars awarded in this category and the top 10 of the compulsory contributions can be found on the Action Figure District Page:
https://action-figure-district.de/66069-2/

The great Trapper Kitbash »The Man from the Mountains« by Russel1 placed third on the winners' podium. Miri took second place with the portrait of the American guitarist »Nita Strauss«, modeled after her Wacken performance in 2017. The winner was the »Pied Piper«, an exciting medieval-inspired fantasy figure by Valiarde.

You can see the freestyle contributions here:
http://forum.action-figure-district.de/viewforum.php?f=68
Oscars and the top 10 are listed here:
https://action-figure-district.de/figuren-wettbewerb-2023-teil-2-die-kuer/

Here Dunedin (our Mick) took third place for placing his characters »Quentin J. “Digger” Blacksmith vs. The Kansas City Kid« in a self-built Longhorn Saloon in an homage to the Western genre. The two favorites from the compulsory part also prevailed in the freestyle, but swapped places. Valiarde staged his »Pied Piper« in a fantastically lit, very atmospheric diorama and Miri sent her »Nita« onto the stage along with Alice Cooper and his band. Her Alice Cooper won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

Congratulations to the winners and many thanks to all participants for the great inspiration! That was fun once again.
17.11.2023 • MONARCH: LEGACY OF MONSTERS
The series »Monarch: Legacy of Monsters«, set in the MONSTERVERSE of Godzilla and Kong, starts today on Apple TV+. And yet again a cinematic universe that expands into the world of series... This series is primarily about the secret organization Monarch and tells its story on two time levels - in the 1950s and a good 50 years later. Big monster action does occur from time to time, but the human drama is the focus of the series.

The question is, how well does the show work when you haven't seen the Monsterverse films »Godzilla« (2014), »Kong: Skull Island« (2017), »Godzilla II: King of the Monsters«(2019) and »Godzilla vs. Kong« (2021). The series may be great for die-hard fans, but less ambitious viewers are often annoyed if too much prior knowledge from other films is assumed. Which is probably one reason why »The Marvels« is currently suffering shipwreck at the box office. »The Marvels« assumes that you are also familiar with the series »WandaVision« and »Ms. Marvel« . Will the Monsterverse series fall into the same trap?

The opinions of the first reviewers vary greatly. One review says the series is boring, while another critic gives it 5 stars. We'll see for ourselves and take a look at the first two episodes today. In any case, we are looking forward to the appearances of Kurt Russell and John Goodman.
16.11.2023 • THANKSGIVING & TERRIFIER 3
This week is the theatrical release of the new slasher THANKSGIVING by director Eli Roth (Hostel, Cabin Fever).

About the story: Thanksgiving is usually the celebration of gratitude and community but this year in Plymouth everything is different: The residents would be happy if they didn't get their heads split open. Reason for that is the appearance of an twisted axe swinging killer who wears a pilgrim outfit. But luckily there is a brave sheriff (Patrick Dempsey) and some youngsters who are willing to fight the menace.

We are looking forward to find out if the new movie by Eli Roth has more to offer than some nasty gore-effects.

Talking about important festivities: Damien Leone has already confirmed that we will get TERRIFIER 3 in 2024, which will be set on Christmas Eve. This week the first teaser was released:
https://youtu.be/DQkjKejbciw

One can understand that little piece as an statement. Leone isn't obviously trying to find new friends and is ready to continue the madness we already witnessed in the second part.

We are looking forward to see THANKSGIVING and TERRIFIER 3.
16.11.2023 • SONGBIRDS AND SNAKES
»The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes« opens in cinemas this week. The prequel takes place 64 years before the events of the first four films and we get to meet young Coriolanus Snow (played by Tom Blyth). The female lead of Lucy Gray Baird is played by Rachel Zegler. The creator of the original series, Francis Lawrence, took over the direction again. Viola Davis and Peter Dinklage can be seen in supporting roles. Filming took place in Breslau, Berlin and in the Duisburg Landscape Park, among others.

Opinions about the film vary widely, ranging from “disappointing” to “okay” to “clearly the best film in the series”. We'll probably have no choice but to form our own opinion about the film.

For those of you who are still undecided, here's the trailer as a little appetizer:

15.11.2023 • S.P.A.C.E POSTCARD COLLECTION NOVEMBER 2023
This month, we have an extraterrestrially cool postcard for you 👽!

For the motif in November, Steffen (@sgink_labs) quickly transformed his neighbour's greenhouse into a photo studio and staged the great Cosmic Legions figures from the »Hvalkatar: Book One« wave by Four Horsemen 🤩.

We'll include a free copy of this postcard in every package we send out to you in November 📦!
14.11.2023 • LUCCA COMICS & GAMES 2023

At the beginning of November, the medieval city of Lucca once again became a mecca for comic fans, gamers and cosplayers from Italy and around the world. The event in Tuscany is the largest of its kind in Europe. Unfortunately the schedule didn't work out for us again this year, but a visit there is firmly on our event wish list, not least to meet our friends from Kaustic Plastik, Infinite Statue & Collectibles and Cosmic Group. Of course the Lucca date is written in bold letters in the Italian manufacturers' calendar and is used to present the new products for the coming year.

Kaustic Plastik showed two new characters in 1:6 scale! Toshiro Mifune, best known from his collaboration with Akira Kurosawa in »Seven Samurai« and other films by the Japanese master director. Mifune appears in a samurai and a ronin version.

Further, Kaustic Plastik will bring the very first licensed Chuck Norris figure in 1/6 scale, based on the film »Missing in Action« - of course made of extra-strong PVC 😉. We hope that we will be able to list the Kaustic novelties in our shop within this month still.

The Bud Spencer & Terence Hill series continues at Infinite. As little PVC statues they are already listed in our shop in 1:12 scale, cross-legged from »Watch Out, We're Mad!«):
https://www.space-figuren.de/Movies/Watch-Out-Were-Mad:::4681_5365.html?language=en

Bud Spencer celebrated his premiere in Lucca as Bulldozer from the film »They Called Him Bulldozer« as 1/6 scale statue. After Bambino and Banana Joe, the line will be expanded with another iconic role of Bud. We expect the pre-order phase to start by the end of November.

A real highlight was also presented for fans of Hammer Films - a dynamic action scene from the showdown in »Dracula« between Christopher Lee as the Transylvanian bloodsucker and Peter Cushing as the vampire hunter Van Helsing.

The PVC mini-statue series (1:18) with comedian »Fantozzi« is likely to appeal primarily to an Italian audience as well as the Old & Rare statue of the comedian »Totò«. The Lupine 3rd l'avventura italiana 1/18 statue with Lupine & Jigen in their Fiat 500 for the anime episode »Lupin III: The Italian Game« also has a clear Italian connection.

There were also the first teasers (initially only with pictures of the actors) for upcoming attractions in the Old & Rare statue line. Lon Chaney is to be immortalized in two statues, as »Phantom of the Opera« and as Professor Edward C. Burke from »London after Midnight«. There will also be a new Laurel and Hardy statue and a new John Wayne. If the photo here actually clearly refers to the film, then it is from the John Ford western »The Horse Soldiers«. Last but not least the Muscles from Brussels Jean Claude van Damme, taken from the Martial Arts hit »Bloodsport«, was also teasered. All these novelties will probably go online for pre-order in the new year though, as we learned.

Good things on the way from Bella Italia!

13.11.2023 • NETFLIX GEEKED WEEK 2023
Last week, Netflix celebrated their GEEKED WEEK for the third time to promote upcoming genre fare to fans. In addition to many discussions between actors in front of and behind the camera, there were of course also many new trailers, teasers, clips and announcements. Among the live-action films and series, a three-minute trailer for »Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire« by Zack Snyder was shown. This of course looks epic and the curiosity of the mass should definitely be piqued:
https://youtu.be/fhr3MzT6exg

The thriller »Leave the World Behind« definitely has a top-class cast with Julia Roberts, Mahershala Ali and Ethan Hawke. In the past, big names at Netflix didn't really guarantee good films. But the trailer looks worthy and definitely whets the appetite for the film:
https://youtu.be/NEF1R0qy21c

The short clip with John Bradley (»Game of Thrones«) of »3 Body Problem« also managed to further stimulate our interest in the sci-fi/fantasy adventure:
https://youtu.be/fje8el375T0

The teaser for »Avatar: The Last Airbender« doesn't look bad. And since we were completely wrong with our speculations about »One Piece«, we will initially exercise gentle restraint when it comes to this new live-action adaptation of an anime:
https://youtu.be/waJKJW_XU90

Also pretty cool and funny could be (hopefully, because we love Michelle Yeoh) the action-packed and probably a bit bloody comedy and family drama »The Brothers Sun« which will hit Netflix  on January 4th:
https://youtu.be/hxat0vySOjg

Of course, »Geeked Week« wouldn't be geeky without a bunch of new anime releases ;). The biggest highlight, as we think, was the first teaser on the next Witcher anime: »The Witcher - Sirens of the Deep« is supposed to hit the streaming service by the end of 2024:
https://youtu.be/Y7ZgJCl62sA
It is based on a short story from the novels in which Geralt is the main character in the spotlight again.

Also interesting could be the »Terminator: The Anime Series« which was officially announced. Not much info has been added yet in this rather generic announcement clip - not even a launch date:
https://youtu.be/KedFX1pn2kA

The last treat was the most important one for all MOTU fans: »Masters of the Universe: Revolution«, the sequel to »Revelation«, got a first teaser and a launch date:
https://youtu.be/6ucJLmGdHVg
So in January we will be taking the route over Netflix back to Eternia with 5 episodes of about 25 minutes each. Awesome :)!
09.11.2023 • DO YOU WANT TO PLAY?
The asymmetrical survival horror game »Dead by Daylight« has remained stubbornly on the market since years and integrated horror icons such as Michael Myers, Pinhead, Ghost Face, Leatherface and many more.

Yesterday, Behavior Interactive announced with a damn cool trailer that another scary legend will be added: Chucky!

The new chapter will be officially available at the end of November and we are very excited to see how the developers try to introduce Chucky into the world of the Entity. The main goal of a killer in »Dead by Daylight« is to hook survivors and so take them out of the game.

It will be really exciting to see how Behaviour will solve this with Chucky because of his small size. Let's see how the animation will appear in the end.

However - we're already hooked and can't wait to sneak around the maps as Chucky - true the motto: "Do you want to play?"

What do you think of Chucky as the latest killer addition?
08.11.2023 • SPRING'S GONNA GET FREEZY!
We got one! Actually a first teaser on the new »Ghostbusters« movie that comes with the subtitle »Frozen Empire«:
https://youtu.be/k_6CbpF2FSk

Seems like New York City and maybe even hell will ❄️ freeze over ❄️ in spring next year! Awesome 🤩!!!
08.11.2023 • MARVEL IN THE SPOTLIGHT
»The Marvels«, the sequel of »Captain Marvel«, with Brie Larson and her two fellow superheroines Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau) and Iman Vellani (Kamala Khan), starts hitting cinemas everywhere this week. We at the S.P.A.C.E Crew were basically looking foward to the launch when watching the first trailer about half a year ago. Basically ...

Do you have the same sort of feeling like we do regarding the MCU nowadays? We are somehow cooled down - at least widely - when it comes to our pleasant anticipation or even the hype on new MARVEL movies or series. Even the love for Carol Danvers, Tony Stark, Steve Rogers and others often can't turn things around.

When searching for the reason for that, we don't need to get into the quality or the storytelling of any particular film or maybe certain episodes of the series. If you ask us, we can bring it right on the spot very quickly: it became too much! We often have the feeling that everything else besides the Marvel Universe needs to be left out or even ignored to be able to really not loose the track within the MCU. All these character introductions, the cliffhangers in the after-credit scenes, the time warps and now the multiverses - who is really still able to keep the overview and, on top of that, dares to afford watching some other streaming hits or cinematic highlights without getting a "Shit I am missing the MCU bus" panic?! Feel free to let us know how you feel. Anyways, it seems that Disney or the crew around Kevin Feige start to react ...

With the new label »Marvel Spolight« (adapted from the comic books), things shall be getting a bit more relaxing and smooth, if we understood correctly. At least Brad Winderbaum (Head of Streaming) explained it in a press release with the example of the upcoming »Echo« series this way:

"Marvel Spotlight gives us a platform to bring more grounded, character-driven stories to the screen, and in the case of Echo, focusing on street-level stakes over larger MCU continuity. Just like comics fans didn't need to read Avengers or Fantastic Four to enjoy a Ghost Rider Spotlight comic, our audience doesn't need to have seen other Marvel series to understand what's happening in Maya's story."

Okay, so that means that despite some gaps in the MCU-watched-list anybody can easily look forward to the Marvel Spotlights? That honestly would be desirable, especially because the trailer for »Echo« kicks ass with its good dose of bloody toughness and violence:
https://youtu.be/AFUKnherhuw

We will see on January 10th because Disney+ will drop all five episodes right away - which is cool! So let's hope that until then our heat is back up - perhaps fired by »The Marvels« which hopefully won't be the next non-starter ...
07.11.2023 • SLY
The Sylvester Stallone documentary »Sly« launched for streaming on Netflix last Friday. This is definitely a treat for fans. We also liked the documentary, but we think that it's a bit too short and too much is left out. We learn little about Stallone's private life, apart from the toxic relationship with his domineering father.

His three major franchises »Rocky«, »Rambo« and »The Expendables« take up a lot of space. Sometimes it's not easy to see where Rocky ends and Stallone begins. It's all exciting, but with a length of only 97 minutes there isn't enough time for other films. In addition to a few flops, »Copland« at least gets a slightly longer mention, but movies like »Cliffhanger« or the »Tulsa King« series don't show up.

The interspersed short statements from his brother Frank, Arnold Schwarzenegger and others mostly only have a eulogy function. Quentin Tarantino delivers the most meaningful contributions here.

Of course, a comparison with the three-part Schwarzenegger documentary »Arnold« also comes to mind, which did a much better job. Where Arnold admits mistakes and charmingly reflects on his own behavior with a wink, there is always a certain bitterness in Sly - and we don't completely buy everything he tells.

The origin story of »Rocky« is of course still extremely exciting and one of the great cinema legends. For that alone it is worth watching the documentary.
06.11.2023 • A NEW KINGDOM - OF THE APES!
Last year in October, we reported about the shooting for the upcoming »Planet of the Apes« movie. Now we finally got a first teaser of »Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes«:
https://youtu.be/NQ_HvTBaFoo

What are your thoughts? We at the S.P.A.C.E Crew are yet a bit unsure, to be honest. The CGI in the teaser at some point looks technically worse than with the predecessors. But still the synapses somehow do connect, probably also because of the flashbacks on the "old" films.

We really hope that the new crew around director Wes Ball will make something good out of it and not create a loveless quick shot due to "Why not milking the ape as long as it gives milk!". We are excited and thrilled for end of May 2024 - when »Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes« will hit cinemas.
02.11.2023 • TO THE MOON - DUMB MONEY
Today »Dumb Money« is hitting German cinemas. The film tells the true story about the stock hype surrounding GameStop - a modern fairy tale from the financial world that should be of interest to more than just gamers.

The trailer really makes you want to see the film by Craig Gillespie (»I, Tonya«, »Pam & Tommy«):
https://youtu.be/bmr8YmwnZ3w

Keith Gill (Paul Dano) aka Roaring Kitty is a normal, somewhat nerdy guy who runs a stock blog on YouTube and gives his advice there. At the height of the Corona crisis, he recognized the potential of GameStop shares, a video game store chain. He puts all his savings into the undervalued stock and promotes it on social media. Suddenly his posts go viral on social networks and a stock tip turns into an entire movement. The stock goes through the roof and normal people become incredibly rich. On the other hand, hedge fund managers Gabe Plotkin (Seth Rogen), Steve Cohen (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Ken Griffin (Nick Offerman), who bet on the company's demise, are making gigantic losses. The Wall Street sharks prepare to fight back...
02.11.2023 • TBLEAGUE'S BODY ART
Today we'd like to put the focus on our 1/6 scale super section or, to be more precise, the seamless bodies by TBLeague. The asian manufacturer is at a premium when it comes to naked bodies in sixth scale but so far a very important thing has been missing: bodies of people of colour.

Now we are getting two new skin tones, at least for female bodies: "brown" and "black". TBLeague presented more than 40 new bodies - please understand that we can't put all of them in our shop. We have, however, made a good selection in our eyes:
https://www.space-figuren.de/specials.php?filter%5B0%5D%5B0%5D=30

In case the model you want isn't included, feel free to contact us. Generally, we can order any body.

To celebrate the expansion of our assortment we'd like to welcome the novelties into our shop with a little sale: Until November 12th 2023 you can pre-order the new bodies for a special price of 55 EUR. After that, they will be available at the regular price of 69,99 EUR. Our first delivery will approximately arrive in January 2024.

And for those who are now thinking: "Cool, new bodies! But what do I do with them without fitting heads?" - you're right for the moment, of course, but we're sure we will see some new announcements very soon, whether from TBLeague or other manufacturers.
01.11.2023 • PRODUCT OF THE MONTH NOVEMBER 2023
It was one of the first really big shock moments in film history. The masked Lon Chaney plays the organ. Mary Philbin approaches from behind. She can't resist her curiosity and takes the mask off his face. Then that fright! We can well imagine the outcry that went through the audience back in 1925 because the appearance of the Phantom of the Opera was kept secret until the film was shown. Lon Chaney designed his own makeup and created one of the first major Universal movie monsters.

Almost 100 years later, fans of the Universal classics will outcry again - but this time full of joy 😉. Because NECA immortalized the man with a thousand faces as »The Phantom of the Opera« in the large Ultimate Universal Monsters series, packed with five different scary heads and fitting accessories!

We are also paying tribute to the great mime and an unforgettable classic by making the figure our product of the month in November!

We are happy about every new figure in this great series with the icons of the „Golden Age of Horror“, which continues to resonate today - including in collectibles, e.g. in the NECA Crossover Ultimate series of the Turtles with the Universal Monsters, in which Casey Jones gives us the Phantom.
31.10.2023 • ABGESPACED - EPISODE 34
Just in time for Halloween we bring to you a new episode of 🚀 ABGESPACED 🚀 - and of course it's horror-themed in October 👻🕷️! Sven and Mick chat about collectibles of Nosferatu, Leatherface and Elvira, spooky film and streaming picks and our big Dracula special 🧛.

We also selected a very fitting goodie and on top we have - as always - a new postcard, our product of the month, cool trailer highlights and exciting news 😁. You can find the new episode now on YouTube. So: Treat yourselves or we'll trick you 😉!

30.10.2023 • EXECUTION IS EVERYTHING
A few days ago Netflix released a trailer for David Fincher's latest work »The Killer«. A film about a contract killer from the master thriller director? That sounds promising!
https://youtu.be/5S7FR_HCg9g

Michael Fassbender plays a nameless hitman who always acts according to his mantra "Stick to your plan" - methodically and distantly. But then one of his jobs backfires and he and his home suddenly find themselves in the sights of his employers.

The film adaptation of the comic series of the same name seems to be a passion project for Fincher that he has wanted to realize for years. Now Netflix has made it possible. The film opened in cinemas last week before being shown on the streaming platform from November 10th. We are excited!
26.10.2023 • FIVE NIGHTS AT FREDDY'S
Mike Schmidt takes a position as a security guard at 'Freddy Fazbear's Pizza'. But as the first night progresses, he realizes that the night shift in the abandoned restaurant will be anything but quiet...

As of today, the video game adaptation »Five Nights at Freddy's« can finally be seen in cinemas. With FNAF inventor Scott Cawthon as co-author and producer, the film remains very true to the video game series, which fans of the games will certainly be delighted about. It's also great that the film doesn't rely on CGI but actually uses animatronics (like in the story). These were created by Jim Henson's Creature Shop, whose credit includes »Sesame Street« and »The Muppet Show«, »The Dark Crystal«, »Labyrinth« and »Little Shop of Horrors«.

Despite these plus points, the trailer hasn't really caught our attention yet, but let's just let ourselves be surprised by what Jason Blum and director Emma Tammi will serve us here:
https://youtu.be/Z_T0o5uNrlY
25.10.2023 • WESTWORLD
You probably remember the brilliant HBO series »Westworld« well. In a futuristic amusement park, the rich visitors can play 'Wild West' and live out their darkest urges, raping and murdering without having to fear consequences because the victims are not humans but lifelike androids. But one day the machines rebel...

Did you know that the series is based on a film? 50 years ago yesterday, Michael Crichton's film of the same name celebrated its US premiere! Yul Brynner plays a leading role as a mechanical gunslinger which is based on his portrayal in the western »The Magnificent Seven«. The indestructible android was an inspiration for John Carpenter's killer Michael Myers in »Halloween« a few years later. And Arnold Schwarzenegger also used Brynner's performance as a model for his appearance in »Terminator«.

The sequel »Futureworld« followed in 1976 with Peter Fonda in a leading role.

Have we made you curious? Take a look at the 1973 trailer for Westworld - it might even make your watchlist for its 50th birthday:

24.10.2023 • FALLOUT: SERIES ADAPTATION
There is good news for fans of the »Fallout« video game franchise: the series adaptation finally has an official start date!

After the adaptation was announced in 2020, Amazon and Bethesda Game Studios have been a long time coming with further details. But now we have certainty - the series about survival in post-apocalyptic Los Angeles will start streaming on Prime Video on April 12, 2024. There is no information yet about the exact plot or the episodes, but at least we can look forward to some familiar faces in the cast. Among them are Kyle MacLachlan (»Twin Peaks«), Michael Emerson (»Saw«) and Walton Goggins (»The Hateful 8«). The director is Jonathan Nolan, who has been involved in the scripts of several of his brother Christopher Nolan's films in the past, including »Interstellar« and »The Dark Knight«.

We are excited about the series after the success of »The Last of Us« was on everyone's lips at the beginning of the year after so many failed game adaptations.

By the way, card collectors have reason to be excited too, because a crossover set from »Magic: The Gathering« with cards from »Fallout« will be released on March 8, 2024, so you can already get in the mood for the series.
