The first MCU blockbuster in the new year will be »Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania« which will hit cinemas mid February. To shorten the waiting-time a bit, Marvel Studios just dropped a new trailer for it - and this is a blast:

Perhaps the clip is giving away a bit too much already...? Because we not only see that Kang definately will play a big role, but also that he is an unpredictable and really mean dude. So in the 3rd Ant-Man part we probably will face more than just some cool gags - we probably can expect a certain portion of drama. We are really excited about what Peyton Reed will show and especially tell us! Are you excited, too?

The first trailer for »Evil Dead Rise«, the fifth film in the EVIL DEAD franchise, was released yesterday. The film breaks new ground and tells its own story in which many things are different. So this time it's not a lonely cabin in the woods, but an apartment building in Los Angeles that is the scene of events. Also, Ash, the protagonist of the first three films and the TV series, does not appear.

Bruce Campbell and Sam Raimi serve as executive producers only. But not everything is new: Again the demonic book Necronomicon Ex-Mortis plays a central role! This time it finds its way to LA in said apartment building. Directed by Lee Cronin, who made his debut in the horror genre in 2019 with »The Hole in the Ground«.

Make sure to check out the English Red Band trailer - it gave us the chills. This looks promising and we're ready to let the darkness take over our poor souls!

In Germany we await the theatrical release on April 20th this year. Then you can step on the path of the Necronomicon! And you know, if you ever find a strange book in the basement, it is not a good idea to read it aloud...

After a short theatrical release, »The Pale Blue Eye«, an adaptation based on the novel by Louis Bayard, will be released tomorrow.

Christian Bale plays world-weary detective Augustus Landor, who is hired to investigate the murder of an West Point cadet. Hampered by the cadets' code of silence, he hires one of their own to help solve the case - a young man the world will know as Edgar Allan Poe.

The trailer has a nice wintry, morbid gothic vibe to it. And Christian Bale's performances are always a pleasure. Harry Melling in the role of the young Edgar Allan Poe also seems to be a good match visually. We are looking forward to an atmospheric experience.

With the beginning of the new year, we want to take a brief look at the film and series highlights of 2022. Due to a growing range of streaming services, it has become increasingly difficult to keep track. In any case, our watch lists are getting longer and longer. In addition to many series, there are even cinema highlights such as »Avatar«, which we definitely want to see on the big screen. So it's clear that we can only put in the spotlight what we've actually seen.

Phase 4 came to an end in the MCU and 2022 brought us not much that really flashed us. »Morbius« was forgettable, »Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness« wasn't what the title promised us and it turned out that »Everything Everywhere All at Once« was clearly the much better Multiverse film and one of the biggest highlights of the year. »Thor: Love and Thunder« also left us a bit perplexed. »Black Panther: Wakanda Forever« did it better, but it wasn't the revelation we hoped for. The same issue we had with the TV series. »Ms. Marvel« was nice but nothing more, »Moon Knight« started great only to lose us after a few episodes, and »She-Hulk« didn't catch us at all. The competitor DC has done things a lot better. Because here »The Batman« made a good impression, especially with its film noir detective story.

When it comes to superheroes, we had the most fun watching »The Boys« season 3 on Amazon Prime. Netflix also had a lot of rubbish in 2022, but also some great shows. Season 4 of »Stranger Things« really took off and Jenna Ortega won our hearts as »Wednesday«. On HBO/Sky, »House of the Dragon« reignited our love for »Game of Thrones«. At the same time, Amazon sent »The Rings of Power« into the race for the favor of fantasy fans. A fight that was clearly won by the George RR Martin prequel.

Disney+ brought us two new Star Wars series last year. We were really looking forward to »Obi Wan Kenobi« and the mini-series certainly had its moments, but unfortunately also a few outrageous weaknesses. On the other hand, we didn't expect anything from »Andor« and were surprised by the quality it achieved.

Finally, let's get to the horror genre we adore so much. »Scream 5« was able to give us hope for future endeavours of the franchise. »Halloween Ends«, on the other hand wasn't the highlight we were hoping for. In the end, »Terrifier 2« was the better (albeit a bit too long) slasher. The horror highlights for us were the smaller movies like »The Innocents«, »Hatching«, »X« and »Barbarian«.

Other titles worth mentioning for us are »The Northman«, »Bones And All«, »Licorice Pizza« and »Massive Talent«.

What were your highlights in 2022?

»Barbarian« has been available on Disney+ since December 28th. The film triggered a real hype in the summer. We also couldn't resist and were awaiting that flick eagerly.

If that hype was justified, you have to decide for yourself. We would advise to settle your high expectations, as hard as it is.
With »Barbarian« you will get solid horror entertainment which is worth checking out.

Little lifehack as closer:
You have the greatest experience if you know absolutely nothing about the film beforehand and just get involved with it.

 

Fans of »The Mandalorian« couldn't await the new year, cause it will bring another season filled with the adventures of the charismatic bounty hunter Din Djarin.

The anticipation of the new season was almost enough reason for us, declaring the impressive Legacy Replica statue for our first product of the new year.
Then we have seen the final results and were blown away: The amount of details, the sculpting and that fantastic paintjob! There was no more question: This must be our first product of 2023.

The 1/4 statue by the brazilian manufacturer IRON STUDIOS depicts Mando posing like an epic space cowboy in league with his companion Grogu. If you havn't already picked up a »The Mandalorian« collectible in the high-class segment, then this is our recommendation.

In other words: This is the way!

The four-part miniseries »The Witcher: Blood Origin« will be available on Netflix from Christmas Day. With a running time of less than four hours, you can easily binge it away over the holidays. Set in an elven world some 1,200 years before the original series, the prequel to the Netflix series »The Witcher« explores the origins of the very first witcher.

The trailer looked promising at first, breathtaking landscapes, great costumes and a good cast with Michelle Yeoh in a leading role gave us confidence. However, after the first reviews and a Rotten Tomatoes critic score of just 39%, we are lowering our expectations a bit. Although the series is credited with rushing action without wasting a lot of time, the character development would unfortunately fall by the wayside and the series missed the chance for a great epic. The work is also not really up to date in terms of CGI technology.

Nevertheless, we remain curious and will find the time to get our own picture over the hollydays. And having no or low expectations can, at best, lead to being positively surprised.

At first we get the movie, then later comes the collectible. That is the usual way. It hasn't be like that. At least when you call yourself IRON STUDIOS:
»Residiuum« is the name of their newest project and has a totally different approach. First the collectible, then follows the universe.

Main focus of »Residiuum« is Coral. A bounty-hunter which was created by artist Igor Catto, who already worked on »God of War« or with famous bands like Prime 1 or Sideshow.

We can get some first information out of the short animation, which IRON STUDIOS released on their YouTube channel: Coral is a young woman inbetween a post-apocalyptic setting, spending her freetime creating creepy plushies and fights her enemies of with the usage of an hallucinogenic gas.

It doesn't only sound crazy, it also looks wonderful crazy. You take some »Tank Girl« and combine it with the psychedelic charme of »Far Cry New Dawn« and insert a little bit of horror by »Five Nights at Freddy's«. You maybe end up with something like Coral and her world. But you should get your personal impressions for sure. So please check out the teaser and the »Residiuum« related Instagram page:

Besides the collectibles - they have already announced a 1/10 statue and some Boogie bears (those are her creepy plushie creations!) - we will get comic books (one was already released) and a mobile-game. Even a book is in the making. Following the next year there will be more projects and collectibles.


The presentation of »Residiuum« was one of the main highlights of the CCXP2022 (a show organized in Brazil by IRON STUDIOS, celebrating toys, collectibles and culture).

In the following we will mark some other highlights:
- »Avatar 2«: Following the theatrical release of »The Way of Water« we will get a new statue. It shows Neytiri jumping out of water and shooting a bow. A very noble piece.
- »Fantasia«: A celebration of Disneys masterpiece. We see a triumphant Mickey Mouse viewing the horizon while one of magic brooms doing work in the lower part of the statue.
- »Star Wars«: IRON STUDIOS brings us Boba Fett riding his Rancor and being dominant!
- »MOTU«: Dominance was also the main focus in their depiction of She-Ra. The Art Scale Statue shows her posing with her sword, ready to face the evil forces of Eteria. She is accompagneed by her dear little friend Kowl.
- »Guillermo Del Toro's Pinocchio«: The first and heart-warming collectible on the Netflix surprise hit also comes from IRON STUDIOS. Great that they also think of smaller movies aside from the mainstream!

Henry Cavill has been in the news a lot lately. First the departure from the WITCHER series, then it was said that he would come back as SUPERMAN, but then he didn't and the announcement that Cavill's Superman was over due to other plans of the DC bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran ...

But there's another ace up Cavill's sleeve. If he can't be Superman, then at least he can be the Emperor of Mankind.

Amazon has secured the rights to WARHAMMER 40,000, not just for a single series, but for series, movies, and more. So there is a Warhammer Cinematic Universe in the wings and Cavill is on board as an actor and producer!

Speaking of Amazon Prime and Games series. The streaming giant recently gave a green light for a series adaptation of GOD OF WAR. Exciting times for the gamer and fantasy community.

The whole 1/6 movie character world is occupied by superheroes. The whole world? No! An Italian village inhabited by two indomitable film enthusiasts does not stop resisting the invader.

We are of course talking about the Italian manufacturers Kaustic Plastik and Infinite Statue & Collectibles, which tirelessly pay tribute to the legends of cinema. One of the greatests in film history has just arrived in our warehouse: CHARLIE CHAPLIN from the classic »The Great Dictator«.

Chaplin plays dual roles in the film, Tomainia Adenoid Hynkel's dictator and a small Jewish barber, who ends up being mistaken for the dictator. As a result, the figure comes with two heads, a movie-authentic costume, and a variety of hands to recreate Hynkel's speaking poses. The deluxe version includes a large globe that you can use to recreate the legendary scene.

Our Mick gave the figure a detailed review in the Action Figure District and, as you can see from the pictures, had a lot of fun playing with the figure. In the end Charlie got a score of 9.6 out of 10. It probably can't get much better than that.

»Avatar: The Way of Water« hits theaters today - and the film is already considered as THE cinema event of the year!

James Cameron set new standards in terms of underwater CGI and promises a feast for the senses. It's a movie that simply has to be seen. It is an experience which of course has to be enjoyed on the big screen - best on an IMAX screen if you have one nearby!

Let us celebrate CINEMA! We are very much looking forward to being all drawn back into the fantastic world of Pandora ...

The two new »DC Studios« bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran clean up and want to create a clear demarcation between the old Snyderverse and the new DC Expanded Universe. A whole series of films are affected by this.

A few days ago, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot was still promoting part 3 of the film series - but as it's being reported now, the film will be scrapped for the time being. There were also creative differences between writer/director Patty Jenkins and DC top guns Gunn and Safran. So it was in an article in the Hollywood Reporter. After »Wonder Woman 1984«, a third part was initially considered certain, even if part 2 was anything but a success and cinematic highlight.

The return of Henry Cavill as Superman in »Man of Steel 2« is said to be off the table, which many Cavill fans shouldn't be happy about. After meager box office results, a sequel to »Black Adam« is by no means guaranteed, even if Dwayne Johnson never tires of claiming the opposite. And for Jason Momoa's character Aquaman, it is also considered likely that after »Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom«, which starts in about one year from now, the plug will be pulled. Jason Momoa though is in talks to play the bounty hunter Lobo!

»The Batman« is not affected by the great wave of restructuring. Matt Reeves seems to still be working on the sequel.

Following the article in the Hollywood Reporter, James Gunn tweeted, “some of it is true, some of it half-true, some of it is not true, and some of it we haven’t decided yet whether it’s true or not.“. So Patty Jenkins is probably out, but he didn't want to completely rule out a sequel to Wonder Woman. The studio would love to make another Wonder Woman, but the question is whether Gal Gadot will do it without Jenkins.

Gunn also gave Superman a high priority. The future of the Black Adam and Superman sequels remains to be seen - and with Wonder Woman 3 being scrapped for now, Gunn is asking fans to be patient while the transition takes place: “We are giving these characters and the stories the time and attention they deserve and we ourselves still have a lot more questions to ask and answer.”.

So let's stay on the ground for now and wait and see how it all develops in the end at DC ...

Over the weekend, the first GAME OF THRONES OFFICIAL FAN CONVENTION took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Among the invited star guests were Kit Harington (Jon Snow), Alfie Allen (Theon Greyjoy) and Jack Gleeson (Joffrey Baratheon) from the original series and Paddy Considine (King Viserys) and Steve Toussaint (Lord Corlys) from »House of the Dragon«.

What made the event in faraway LA especially worth mentioning for us was the presence of THREEZERO. The manufacturer's last convention appearances never brought anything new and mostly focused on topics such as »Transformers« and »Ultraman«.

But it goes without saying that the collectibles for the HBO series have to be on display at a »Game of Thrones« convention. And this time, Threezero really managed to surprise us, as they released FOUR new 1/6 scale figures: Daenerys Targaryen from season 7 and as "Khaleesi" from season 2, along with her Dothraki husband Khal Drogo and Ser Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane from season 7. He actually is a fan-requested character who finally gets to face off against his brother Sandor 'The Hound' Clegane (season 7).

We are very pleased that the »Game of Thrones« figure line will be continued. Unfortunately, there were no figures or license announcements for »House of the Dragon« yet, but we think it can only be a matter of time. At the latest at the beginning of season 2, we are counting on that. On that note: Valar Morghulis.

Of corse we have a winter holiday motif for December in the S.P.A.C.E POSTCARD COLLECTION - and it is of course wonderful because it comes from our friend and Gremlins breeder Patrick, aka wonderbunk 😄!

Will little Gizmo probably poo in his pants because of the mean Gremlin - or will he smack him real hard any moment with the dangerous candy cane? This Christmas carol can be finalized by yourselves. Our current postcard will give you the proper inspiration.
