Today we want to take a look at the D23 Expo highlights from the Marvel Universe from the past weekend:
An exclusive film clip from »Black Panther: Wakanda Forever« was shown, in which Queen Ramonda stands in front of an international court and is charged by claiming vibranium for Wakanda alone. Director Ryan Coogler has also confirmed that the film is still in editing. No details were given about the plot.
The »Ironheart« series takes place after the events of »Black Panther 2«, where main character Riri Williams is introduced, and is intended to blend elements of technology and magic. On-site viewers were able to see an exclusive clip that we are unfortunately not yet able to see. The series will be available to stream on Disney+ in 2023.
Again, only the guests in Anaheim were able to enjoy the first moving images of the new ant adventure »Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania«. Apparently, heroes Scott Lang and Hope van Dyne were seen fighting Kang the Conqueror and MODOK. The movie will officially kick off the fifth phase of the MCU on February 15th, 2023.
An unusual project from Marvel Studios: a horror spectacle entirely in black and white called »Werewolf by Night«. In any case, the trailer promises us a brutal werewolf who makes short work of his hunters. From October 7th, Disney+ will take us back to the scary movies of the 1930s.
https://youtu.be/bLEFqhS5WmIThe trailer for »Secret Invasion« (start date: early 2023) shows Nick Fury returning to earth after his trip in space and having to stop the Skrull invasion. We're looking forward to all the action with a badass Samuel L. Jackson in the leading role!
https://youtu.be/qZVTkn2NjS0It has been confirmed that »Armor Wars« is still in development - so little is known about it. However, it has been hinted that we will see Colonel James "Rhodey" Rupert Rhodes, aka War Machine, in many different combat uniforms.
Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino and Ke Huy Quan walked straight off the set in London, where the second season of »Loki« is being filmed. A short clip for season 2, which starts in 2023 on Disney+, was then teasered to the D23 audience on the panel.
The next topic was the one where most of the rumors and speculation happened in advance. But the fans were rather disappointed. The hoped-for introduction of the cast of »Fantastic Four« didn't happen, only Matt Shakman was confirmed as the director - we know him from the »WandaVision« director's chair. »Fantastic Four« will premiere in the US on November 8th, 2024.
»Echo« revolves around anti-heroine Maya Lopez and Kingpin from »Hawkeye«. The audience in the Convention Center learned a few details about the series and about the further experiences of the main characters. Unfortunately, we all have to wait a little longer ...
»Daredevil: Born Again« will not just be another season of the discontinued Netflix series, but an independent series. Filming is expected to start next year, and as actor Charlie Cox mentioned, Daredevil could also appear as part of the Avengers in the future.
In 2024 we will be able to admire »Captain America: New World Order« in the cinemas. Alongside »The Falcon and the Winter Soldier« cast members Anthony Mackie (Sam Wilson/Captain America), Danny Ramirez (Joaquin Torres) and Carl Lumbly (Isaiah Bradley), new cast member Tim Blake Nelson was also introduced as Samuel Sterns aka the Leader.
The highlight of the entire Marvel presentation was indisputably the introduction of the team of the blockbuster »Thunderbolts«, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on July 26, 2024 and at the same time, marks the end of the fifth phase of the MCU.
There are:
Julia Louis Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine
David Harbor as the Red Guardian
Hannah John Kamen as Ghost
Olga Kurylenko as Task Master
Wyatt Russel as John Walker aka US agent
Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova
Sebastian Stan as the Winter Soldier
The Marvel event was rounded off with a clip of »The Marvels«, which was shown exclusively at D23. In any case, the excerpt promises a lot of humor and action as well as a reunion with the cat Goose ;). It seems that the »Captain Marvel« sequel will hit cinemas on July 28, 2023.
Kevin Feige and his superheroes do have a lot in the pipeline for the next years :)!
