16.02.2023 • ELEVEN BY THREEZERO - REVIEW
The manufacturer threezero has a knack for collecting licenses for popular TV series. They have THE WALKING DEAD, GAME OF THRONES and BREAKING BAD in their program. They could certainly have done more with the latter, but they have generated quite a decent output for both TWD and GoT. The newest license in their catalogue is the Netflix series STRANGER THINGS. After the Demogorgon and Dustin, Eleven from Season 1 is out too. Lucas will follow shortly and yesterday a first preview picture of Will Byers was shown on Facebook.

Mick, our series junkie on duty, took a closer look at Eleven for the ACTION FIGURE DISTRICT and finds both words of praise and annoyance in his review.

With what collectors are paying for a figure these days, we think they can expect something from licensees like threezero. So they also deserve a slap from time to time for their occasional ignorance and negligence. But read for yourselves:

15.02.2023 • CHILDREN OF THE CORN
CHILDREN OF THE CORN is one of those horror titles that have made it into the cultural memory because of its evocative naming. Almost everyone has heard of it, but very few have seen anything from the franchise. Most genre fans should at least know the first release from 1984, since it is part of the general horror knowledge. The countless sequels, the series adaptation or the prequel is something even most horror fans won't have touched.

That could change this year, because director Kurt Wimmer ("Equilibrium") delivers us a new edition of the material based on a short story by Stephen King. Two days ago, the first trailer was finally released. And it offers everything the film became known for: Cornfields, sectarian kids with knives and axes, angst-ridden adults, and more cornfields!

About the story: Twelve-year-old Eden becomes possessed by the dying spirit of a cornfield and begins recruiting the children of the local town for a bloody cult. Especially the adults become the preferred victims of this dark community.

If you too want to pay tribute to "him who walks behind the rows", your first order is to watch the following trailer:
https://youtu.be/PWCGoGdkM7I

The movie will hit cinemas in the US on March 3rd. Already on March 21st, the evaluation on Shudder follows directly. Let's hope for a theatrical release or at least the availability on Blu-ray or VOD in Europe anytime soon as well.

A little fun fact at the end: The film was already finished in 2020, but was then slightly postponed due to Corn-oa 😉.
15.02.2023 • ANT-MAN AND THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA
Today »Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania« opens in cinemas and heralds phase 5 in the MCU!

So far there have hardly been any euphoric critiques. At best, the reviewers can agree that the film is fine. Bad green screen optics, few funny gags and a predictable and therefore rather boring plot are often criticized. Are the great times for Marvel over after phase 4 was already significantly weaker?

But despite all of these shortcomings, there seem to be a few bright spots that all critics agree on. One is Jonathan Majors as Kang The Conqueror. With him, a worthy Marvel villain finally enters the stage again, here to stay and with a lot of potential for future Marvel films and as a significant antagonist of phase 5. On top of that, the creative ideas are praised when it comes to populating the quantum dimension.

To us, it looks like the movie can entertain if you don't set expectations too high. And we're excited to see Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfeiffer again. We're also curious about Bill Murray's appearance.

So let's see for ourselves. We'll know more after going to the movies.

13.02.2023 • SUPER BOWL LVII
Yesterday the 57th SUPER BOWL, the final of the 2022 National Football League American football season, was played at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs. At the beginning of the event, Sheryl Lee Ralph and Babyface already delivered very emotional performances with "Lift Every Voice and Sing" and "America the Beautiful". The highlight of the opening, however, was country star Chris Stapleton, who moved many spectators and players to tears with his performance of the national anthem.

After the kickoff, the two opponents fought a duel at eye level. The Eagles led 24-14 at halftime.

As every year, the halftime show was anticipated to be one of the highlights of the event. In her first appearance in several years, superstar Rihanna performed the biggest hits of her career in a thirteen-minute show. With a comparatively simple setting and a group of dancers, the focus was on the singer, who presented her baby bump during the performance, revealing her second pregnancy.

The second half of the game remained exciting until the last minute and in the end the Kansas City Chiefs won the game with 38:35. So congratulations to the Chiefs!

The Super Bowl is considered the biggest sports and media event of the year. The broadcast of the mega event reaches 800 million viewers worldwide. Fans had to shell out an average ticket price of US$9,927 for a seat in the stadium. With such dizzying numbers, the cost of running a commercial or trailer is astronomically high. Advertisers try to deliver a real talking piece, often with prominent support.

Among them this year were Will Ferrell, who traveled through the worlds of various Netflix series such as Squid Game and Stranger Things for General Motors, as well as Steve Martin and Ben Stiller, who tried to convince us of the taste of Pepsi with the help of their acting skills. Also worth mentioning is Jack Harlow, who started a worldwide triangle hype in the Doritos commercial. But the highlight among the spots was very clear: Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul returned to their Breaking Bad roles as Walter White and Jesse Pinkman once again to get back into business. But this time with a different drug: PopCorners! Walt and Jesse sell the corn chips to their well-known dealer Tuco, played by Raymond Cruz. You can find a top 10 of this year's commercials in this video:
https://youtu.be/CcHhJE6KoZs

Traditionally, the Super Bowl is also a date for trailer premieres. However, this year most of the films were advertised with shorter teasers of 30 to 45 seconds. Among them, the teaser for SCREAM 6 excited us and the John Williams title melody alone got us hooked for INDIANA JONES 5: THE DIAL OF DESTINY.

In contrast to the first long, very charming trailer, the montage clip for DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES is almost daunting. Other films teased were TRANSFORMERS 7: RISE OF THE BEASTS, 65, CREED 3 AND AIR: COURTING A LEGEND, a film about Michael Jordan and the legendary Nike Air Jordan that also brings us the reunion of Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Especially funny is the commercial for Super Mario Bros. Plumbing promoting THE SUPER MARIO BROS MOVIE.

There were three really big trailers: FAST X, the 10th part of the »Fast and Furious« saga, as usual with over the top action and Jason Momoa as a bad ass antagonist, the trailer shows everything that fans love about the franchise.

THE FLASH entered the race for DC and presents us with a preview of an exciting time travel theme that already promises many eastereggs and brings us both Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton as Batman. Although we're not huge fans of The Flash, we have to admit that the trailer really got us hooked.

The preview of Marvel's GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3 also grabbed us. Especially the backstory of Rocket made us extremely curious. For the third and last time, James Gunn manages to create the right mix of action, comedy and tragedy and a great soundtrack. After this trailer we are even more excited for this movie. 09.02.2023 • KNOCK AT THE CABIN
As of today, »Knock at the Cabin«, the new film by M. Night Shyamalan, is showing in German cinemas.

While vacationing in a remote cabin, a girl and her two fathers are taken hostage by armed strangers who demand that the family makes a decision to avert the apocalypse. Are these strangers just nuts, or is there really something to the imminent end of the world?

The premise of this story, which begins as a home invasion thriller, has its appeal and has made us quite curious. The first reviews don't celebrate the film as a masterpiece, but they are largely benevolent. Dave Bautista especially is receiving great critiques for his role as one of the unexpected invaders.

M. Night Shyamalan seems to have overcome his recent slump with the film - based on the novel »The Cabin at the End of the World« by Paul Tremblay - although the movie is certainly a long way from his acclaimed early works like »The Sixth Sense« and »Unbreakable«.

We're not sure yet whether »Knock at the Cabin« will draw us into the cinema or whether we'll just wait for the streaming release.

06.02.2023 • INFINITY POOL
Most recently, the horror film »Infinity Pool«, directed by Brandon Cronenberg (yes, that's the son of the great Cronenberg!), premiered at the 39th Sundance Film Festival. After »Antiviral« and »Possessor« we are already dealing with the third feature film by Brandon Cronenberg. It is no exaggeration to say that he has long since established himself as a director. This can be easily seen from the actors involved: Alexander Skarsgård and Mia Goth were recruited for his new work.

»Infinity Pool« is set on the fictional vacation island of La Tolqa. The author James Foster and his wife Em are there to treat themselves to a true luxury vacation. Gorgeous beaches, first-class delicacies and other amenities make the island heaven on earth. At least when you stay within the areas designated for tourists. Stupidly, the couple is tempted to leave the "safe-space". A tragic accident occurs and the two have to learn that La Tolqa has its own ideas of law and order...

»Infinity Pool« will be shown at the Berlinale in February. The film is scheduled for theatrical release in Germany on April 20th. Here's a little appetizer:

01.02.2023 • PRODUCT OF THE MONTH FEBRUARY 2023
Everything that you wanted, I have done!
You asked the child be taken - I took him.
You cowarded before me - I was frighning.
I have reordered time.
I have turned the world upside down.
And I have done it all for you ...!
~Jareth, the Goblin King

Until today, this wonderful world full of monsters, creatures, mythical beasts and of course goblins which was so pasionately created by Jim Henson, Elliot Scott and Brian Froud makes the hearts of all children of the 80's and lovers of fantasy movies beat faster.

Besides the lovely sets and the almost alive puppets if was especially David Bowie with his enigmatic appearance and mysterious presence who gave the extra portion magic to this world - not the least by this great music!

We all remember the showdown between Sarah and Jareth towards the end of the movie, after Sarah desperately was chasing after her little brother Toby to rescue him ... in this surreal maze of probably endless winding stairs and criss-crossed lyring steps.

The talented and passionate artists of WETA WORKSHOP captured this significant, illusionary scene of the movie and freezed if forever for the joy of every LABYRINTH fan. The details of this impressive statue are remarkable, from the sculpting and the depth of the stairs and arches to the finish of the three figures Toby, Sarah and Jareth. The likeness of the actors Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie are done really well and especially when looking at the paintjob of the Goblin King, you can recognize the extreme love of detail. Little Toby in his red-white romper can either be placed on one of the stairs or (with a hidden magnet) be hung defy gravity upside down - just like in the movie!

This wonderful collectible is limited to 500 pieces. We hope that WETA will keep on expanding the line of the LABYRINTH collectibles, but we are already very grateful for this centerpiece and therefore made it - totally lost in nostalgia - our product of the month February 2023!
31.01.2023 • TOMB RAIDER GOES AMAZON
TV show adaptations of videogames aren't always miserable as we can see nowadays with »The Last of Us«. Because of its high quality, the show delights the gaming crowd and tv show addicts alike. So we aren't that surprised by AMAZON's decision to engage more into the realm of adaptations and with that buying the franchise of »Tomb Raider«. Besides an own tv show they also want to put out movies and games. We already assumed that there won't be an continuation of the 2018 movie reboot with Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft. Now with Amazon as the right holder it seems almost impossible. What do you think: Who will be the next Lara Croft? ;)

We don't have any information on the cast of this new show. But we know that Phoebe Waller-Bridge (this year starring with Harrison Ford in »Indiana Jones 5«) will be the showrunner for the series. This seems to be an first step into the right direction. If Lara wants to play in the same league as Joel and Ellie there needs to be some script updates for sure. As most players havn't played »Tomb Raider« for the story ...
30.01.2023 • FRIDAY THE 13TH REBOOT
The famous slashers of the late 70's and 80's can't be killed and keep coming back. Most recently, Michael Myers received a fresh cell treatment (with a good start and two rather weak sequels). Leatherface was revived several times and the Ghostface mask also found its willing psychopaths as new wearers. We haven't heard from another mask wearer for quite some time. We're talking about Jason Voorhees, the Man in the hockey mask and the FRIDAY THE 13TH series. The last film was released back in 2009.

But as Bloody Disgusting has now reported, there is movement in the franchise again! »Friday the 13th« creator Sean S. Cunningham is responsible for the production of a reboot. Jeremy Weiss (The Teacher) is slated to direct; Jeff Locker is set to write the script. And as is common in the genre, it shouldn't just stay with one film. The reboot of the horror classic would actually be the 13th film in the series!

But the production currently has stalled because of a legal battle between Sean S. Cunningham and original writer Victor Miller. Cunningham, Weiss and Locker already have a plan B up their sleeves. Should further disputes block the reboot, a content-related continuation of the first part from 1980 is planned.

So we don't plan our next vacation in Camp Crystal Lake until 2024. If the wait is getting to be too long, you're sure to find solace in our Friday the 13th collectibles:

26.01.2023 • DEAD SPACE REMAKE
Horror fans and gaming enthusiasts are looking forward to tomorrow. Because then we will finally get the remake of »Dead Space«!

For many fans the 2008 released work is still considered as one of the best survival-horrorgames that are available. The third-person-shooter set in space and mostly on a space station convinced with a really atmospheric and anxiety inducing orchestration. The player worked through a seemingly never ending maelstrom of digital terror. While being confronted with scary body-horror abominations we made our way through a dark stream of blood and guts.

Now we get the remake of this massive title. If we can trust the first impressions then our expectations can get possibly fulfilled. It seems like the developers have done their homework. An opinion that was supported by the outputs of renowned gaming journalists who already test-played it.

You can get a good impression by the following video:
https://youtu.be/4Tls3Wx_M4A

The remake of »Dead Space« will be released on January 27, 2023, for PS5, XBOX and PC (Steam). If you want to prepare yourself you can already preload the game. So you don't lose any time when the orgy of splatter begins 😉!
25.01.2023 • THE 2023 OSCAR NOMINATIONS
The countdown to the 95th Academy Awards is on! Yesterday, the nominations in all categories were announced.

EVERYTHING EVERYWHERE ALL AT ONCE tops the list this year with a whopping 11 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Michelle Yeoh for Best Actress, Ke Huy Quan for Best Supporting Actor, Jamie Lee Curtis and Stephanie Hsu as Best Supporting Actress, Best Costume Design, Best Film Music, Best Film Song and Best Editing. The movie was also one of our top highlights of the last year and we are keeping our fingers crossed for it.

THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN and the German contribution ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT follow with 9 nominations. Here, too, we are curious whether one or more of the golden boys will find the way to Germany. Netflix has also been waiting for a long time to bring an Oscar to the streaming house after last year Apple did it.

The ELVIS biopic by Baz Luhrmann was nominated 8 times (incl. Austin Butler for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role), Spielberg's autobiographical film THE FABELMANS has 7 nominations, TÁR and TOP GUN: MAVERICK made it to 6 nominations.

All of those named can hope for the "Best Picture" award. Furthermore in the race are WOMEN TALKING, AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER and TRIANGLE OF SADNESS.

Marvel has 5 nominations for BLACK PANTHER: WAKANDA FOREVER, including Angela Bassett for Best Supporting Actress. DC gets 3 nominations for THE BATMAN (Best Visual Effects, Best Sound, Best Make-up & Best Hairstyling).

Honestly, we were a little surprised that James Cameron did not get the nomination for "Best Directing" for AVATAR 2. To see ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT as a German movie going into the race with even NINE nominations is really exciting for us!

We will then find out which films bring in the most trophies on March 12. You can find all the nominees in the following overview:
https://www.oscars.org/oscars/ceremonies/2023

24.01.2023 • OUR MOVIE HIGHLIGHTS FOR 2023
The cinema year 2023 promises us a lot - above all, the return of many beloved heroes and themes. Here are the movies the S.P.A.C.E crew is most looking forward to:

SVEN
If the new GHOSTBUSTERS movie (“Firehouse”?) really will start this year, it will of course be this one 😁. Otherwise, ANT-MAN 3 (»Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania«) will win the race for me for the time being - and at least Bill Murray will be seen there as a consolation 😅!

TOBI
Since I've been playing D&D for the last 1-2 years now and the trailer of the movie made me really curious, I'm really looking forward to DUNGEONS & DRAGONS (»Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves«) 🐉!

ANDREA
I'm most excited about the 3rd part of the GUARDIANS (»Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3«) this year - finally new adventures of the biggest idiots in the galaxy 😁🦝!

DANIEL
My most anticipated movie of the year is the new EVIL DEAD (»Evil Dead Rise«). In the last year we had a couple of successfull horror movies which convinced us with there high quality and insane violence. I'm thinking about »Terrifier 2« and »The Sadness«. I hope that the renewed dance with the devils will hit a similar spot 🤘!

MICK
DUNE ended in 2021 when things got really exciting. Since then, I can hardly wait for Denis Villeneuve to finally continue the epic with »Dune: Part Two«. In November the time has finally come 🥳!

Which film are you looking forward to in 2023?
23.01.2023 • WHO NEEDS HEROES WHEN YOU HAVE THIEVES!
Paramount just dropped a new trailer on DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: HONOR AMONG THIEVES - and this is really funny!
https://youtu.be/HGvv-Hhft3U

Goofy and self-ironic to the max - but apparently also with really cool visual effects and of course a lot of action, the flick will hit theaters globally at end of March 🥳🍿. Let's hope that not all gags have already been blown out in the trailer. We're really looking forward to the movie - you, too?
19.01.2023 • SEX & DRUGS & JAZZ & MOVIES
Movies that deal with filmmaking and the studios have always had our attention. From DAY FOR NIGHT to LIVING IN OBLIVION to ONCE UPON A TIME...IN HOLLYWOOD, we've always enjoyed it when the film takes up the topic itself.

Now we can add another chapter to this illustrious line, because as from today, BABYLON by Damien Chazelle (La La Land, Whiplash) is in cinemas and takes us back to the Hollywood of the roaring 20's with Margot Robbie and Brad Pitt to the time when the sound film replaced the silent film.

Anyone who thinks of Kenneth Anger's book »Hollywood Babylon« when hearing the film title is probably not even on the wrong track.

For the movie buffs among us, the picture frenzy is a must, even if a running time of 3 hours and 9 minutes demands a lot of staying power from us.
