04.09.2024 • SMILE 2
In September 2022, the feature film debut of Parker Finn called »Smile« caused a sensation. Fueled by clever marketing, the film was able to generate hype among the younger audience on TikTok. Soon the rule was: if you had enough courage, you had to see the "most creepy shocker of all time".

More experienced horror viewers were skeptical at first. After all, they were used to the fact that every few months a new film comes along, which makes great promises, but in the end can not keep any of them. Fortunately, »Smile« was different. The film was actually entertaining and was able to score with decent shock moments. The basic theme with the titular ominous smile had not yet been seen in this form.

In October the sequel »Smile 2« will hit cinemas. Recently the second trailer was dropped, which looks quite promising:

04.09.2024 • STREAMING TIP: SLOW HORSES - SEASON 4
The fourth season of »Slow Horses« starts today on Apple TV+. If the first three seasons of this exciting and darkly humorous series, based on the novels by Mick Herron, have passed you by without a trace, be sure to catch up! It's worth a watch.

Slough House is an MI5 branch to which failed agents are consigned. There they sort files and complete similarly boring tasks while being exposed to the harassment and insults of their constantly bad-tempered boss Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman). In MI5 jargon, the employees of Slough House are often mockingly called the Slow Horses. According to Jackson Lamb, there are only two reasons why one ends up with the Slow Horses: Either you're an absolute loser or you've unwillingly pissed someone off. The latter applies to River Cartwright (Jack Lowden), who was sent to the Slow Horses after messing up.

Jackson Lamb is a starring role for Oscar winner Gary Oldman, who embodies the washed-up agent so wonderfully ambivalently that we hate him and love him at the same time. He plays the disillusioned cynic so credibly that his body odor is almost physically perceptible.

Then there is the MI5 puppet master Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas), who plays a significant role in the Slow Horses being repeatedly drawn into a web of betrayal, lies and the machinations of dark forces ...

To whet your appetite, here is the trailer for the 4th season of »Slow Horses«:

03.09.2024 • DEAD BY DAYLIGHT AS A STORYTELLING HORROR GAME
»The Casting of Frank Stone« - that's the name of the latest game from Supermassive Games, the developers of the popular »The Dark Pictures Anthology« series and »Until Dawn«, which is released today for the PS5, Xbox and Windows.

This is a storytelling survival horror game set in the cosmos of »Dead by Daylight«. Therefore, they naturally worked closely with the DbD creators Behaviour Interactive. According to the two studios, it is intended not only to appeal to die-hard »Dead by Daylight« fans, but also to attract new players who find the world around »Dead by Daylight« fascinating but are not particularly interested in multiplayer games. We will find out to what extent it will succeed in the next few days. Our Tobi - a die-hard entity and »Dark Pictures« fan - will download and test the game this evening.

What about you - are you up for it too?
02.09.2024 • PRODUCT OF THE MONTH SEPTEMBER 2024
Waylon Jones was already born as an outsider: from an early age, the orphan was a victim of his surroundings. The reason for this was a disease that gave his skin a scaly structure with a green shimmer. This made him an easy prey for the children from the neighborhood, who would call him "Croc". And after the mistreatment, ridicule and rejection by the people around him got worse and worse over the years, Croc eventually became Killer Croc 🐊.

We wanted to pull Waylon Jones aka Killer Croc out of his outsider existence and therefore chose the Killer Croc Megafig by McFarlane Toys in the Glow in the Dark Version as our 💥 Product of the Month 💥 September 2024! At S.P.A.C.E, the condition of Killer Croc's skin is not a nuisance, but an admiration-arousing feature. And that's even more true for the Glow in the Dark Version, which is limited to 5400 pieces and stands 10 inches tall! After a short sunbath, your Killer Croc is ready to fight in the dark ...

This variant is based on Killer Croc's appearance in the award-winning video game »Batman: Arkham Asylum«. Since Killer Croc cannot be integrated into the regular patient's everyday life due to his massive body, incredible strength and bestial mind, the doctors decided to put him in the sewer without further ado. Such a pragmatic approach to the needs of the patients one would sometimes also wish for from doctors in real life 😉. In the sewer, Killer Croc is challenged to a legendary duel by Batman during the course of the game.

02.09.2024 • CURRENT DELAYS IN DELIVERY
Dear customers!

You've probably noticed in the last few weeks that we've unfortunately had to keep moving the arrival date of certain items that are coming soon - and many of them haven't arrived in our warehouse until this day. If you're wondering why this is - and if you're just as annoyed by it as we are - here's a short explanation:

Anyone who has been collecting for a while knows how difficult it has always been to get proper delivery dates from our suppliers or manufacturers. In our opinion, communication and transparency in general in our industry should be much higher - especially since we are talking about mostly expensive luxury goods and a demanding hobby. In comparison to the USA and Asia, we in Europe usually have an even worse hand when it comes to this, as we are dangling at the end of the chain.

Anyone who has been with S.P.A.C.E for a long time also knows that, for the reasons described, we put a lot of time and effort into our work in order to close precisely these gaps as best as possible - because we believe that this is, among other things, our task or mission as a reliable specialist dealer. Of course, we are dependent on our suppliers (be it manufacturers, middlemen or distributors) - and we have been fighting to improve all of these structures for decades.

Unfortunately, the European sales structure has recently undergone a major change at the distributor level that will have a drastic impact on certain brands/manufacturers. One of these clearly noticeable effects is the currently prevailing confusion and delays on various shipments.

Before we go into further details at a later date (if necessary), we simply wanted to give you a short statement today about the acute problem - especially because we are of course your contact #1, but we want to make clear that these delays and lack of information about clear delivery dates, among other things, are not our fault.

We very much hope that these stumbling blocks to the restructuring of the affected suppliers will be resolved quickly and that everything will work out in the next few weeks so that the delivery dates announced in our shop are more reliable again - and we can communicate and work properly with you.

Please consider this information today as general info as part of our transparency towards you. Nobody needs to worry about their pre-order. We simply ask you for more of what is unfortunately the order of the day in this hobby: patience ...

30.08.2024 • STAR WARS OUTLAWS
Just in time for the weekend, the brand new Star Wars game »Star Wars Outlaws« is released today for PC, PS5 and Xbox for everyone who prefers to hide indoors from the hot temperatures!

Even though Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft apparently weren't able to deliver anything groundbreaking in terms of visuals in the 3-4 years of development, the story, the humor and the exploration of the "open world" with all its unexpected twists turned out really well. In short: »Star Wars Outlaws« is definitely fun 😀!

Maybe the widespread skepticism about the game (due to some negative experiences with Ubisoft) was too hasty? It would be nice if »Star Wars Outlaws« became the gaming highlight for the fall and you could sneak around the Outer Rim for hours with Kay Vess and Nix 😉.

We're excited to hear the feedback from Star Wars gamers out there! Is »Star Wars Outlaws« already your personal game blockbuster of the year - or are you as unaffected by it as by an average shot from a standard Stormtrooper?
29.08.2024 • TODAY IN CINEMA: AFRAID
»AfrAId« is opening in cinemas right now. The title and its spelling make it clear what it is about: the fear of artificial intelligence. A topic that is currently en vogue and which Blumhouse has already exploited with relish in »M3GAN«. The trailer for »AfrAId« is clearly reminiscent of it and apparently the films have more in common than just the idiosyncratic spelling of the title:
https://youtu.be/LE5QzD_qtxs

Blumhouse is constantly churning out new, inexpensively produced and mass-compatible PG-13 horror films. Sometimes they manage to release real masterpieces like »Get Out«, interesting updates of classic material like »The Invisible Man«, franchise-forming films like »Insidious« or entertaining horror popcorn movies like »Happy Death Day«. But unfortunately there are also a lot of embarrassing duds in the Blumhouse catalog, most recently »The Exorcist: Believer«, »Night Swim« and »Imaginary«.

We are excited to see where »AfrAId« will rank, because strangely enough there are no reviews of the film from the usual suspects on YouTube yet. Initial viewer votes, however, rank the film with only 1 to 2.5 stars. So we are not expecting too much, but always happy to be positively surprised.
29.08.2024 • NATURAL BORN KILLERS
30 Years ago, »Natural Born Killers« by Oliver Stone celebrated its premiere in the USA. The film, based on a story by Quentin Tarantino, caused a sensation at the time due to its explicit violence in combination with breathtaking visual staging. In addition, Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis were two up-and-coming Hollywood starlets. The cast was rounded off by the already established Robert Downey Jr. and Tommy Lee Jones.

The film tells the story of the severely disturbed serial killer couple Mickey and Mallory Knox. They drive through the USA as heavily in love as they are heavily armed and kill tons of people. As a spectator, we witness their wedding and learn a little about the dysfunctional circumstances that produced the two psychopaths. While the law enforcement officers are following the trail of blood, Mickey and Mallory are built up to be true media stars by the American press.

The special thing about »Natural Born Killers« is the dizzying visual violence that sweeps over the viewer. The film is a road movie, an action movie and a black comedy, whereby a wide variety of image formats and camera filters are used with bravura and elegance. The whole thing seems neither artificial nor forced, but coherent in itself and thought out down to the last detail. The efforts of Oliver Stone and cameraman Robert Richardson should pay off: »Natural Born Killers« has become both a well-known and notorious cult film, which has lost none of its fascination even after 30 years.

28.08.2024 • ELVES AND ROBOTS ON TV
This week the home cinema will be epic, because starting tomorrow there are two new streaming releases waiting for you that promise a lot of suspense: Season 2 of »The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power« and »Terminator Zero«.

After almost two years, Prime Video is continuing its original series »The Rings of Power«. The show takes place in the Second Age of Tolkien's world and shows us the story of the fight against Sauron, who wants to seize power over Middle-earth with the help of the rings. Season 2 will focus heavily on the necromancer and his evil plans. And as the final trailer impressively shows us, we can look forward to a huge battle. The villain will not only have to face Galadriel, but also Adar and his orcs.
https://youtu.be/c9fsBy45YTQ

Things get a little less magical, but likely just as dark, in the eight-part anime series »Terminator Zero« on Netflix. In 1997, scientist Malcolm Lee is working on an artificial intelligence that will prevent Skynet's impending retaliation against humanity. But Skynet knows how to defend itself and sets a Terminator on Malcolm, who travels back in time to stop him. But a mysterious soldier is also sent back with the task of protecting him and his children and thus averting Judgment Day. Appropriately, the release of the series falls on its date, August 29th.

27.08.2024 • HE MADE US BELIEVE A MAN COULD FLY
Today we would like to draw your attention to the Warner Bros. documentary »Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story«. The documentary celebrated its much-acclaimed premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival. The official trailer was dropped on the Warner Bros. YouTube channel yesterday. The US theatrical release will take place on September 21st.
https://youtu.be/gX-B3HMlMfY

Christopher Reeve was a young, little-known actor who became a film and pop culture icon almost overnight in 1978 with his role as Superman in the Richard Donner film of the same name. He played the Man of Steel three more times until 1987.

On a fateful day in May 1995, Reeve fell at a horse show and broke two cervical vertebrae. As a result of the accident, he was paralyzed from the neck down and used a wheelchair. Together with his wife, he founded the Christopher and Dana Reeve Paralysis Resource Center to support paraplegics. In 2004, Reeves died at the age of 52 after suffering a cardiac arrest and falling into a coma.

The documentary describes Reeves' life before and after the accident with unseen private archive footage and gives family and companions a chance to speak. The result is a document of hope and the trailer alone moves us to tears. The film's tagline sums it up: „Once you choose hope, anything is possible.“
27.08.2024 • SECRET LEVEL
Since Gamescom 2024 is now over, we would like to present to you our highlight this year - a new Amazon series titled »Secret Level«! This was introduced by »Deadpool« director Tim Miller during the opening night and will be released on Prime Video on December 10th. The first season will consist of 15 episodes, each telling a story from the world of a video game. According to the first trailer, we can look forward to a lot of game franchises such as »Mega Man«, »God of War«, »Pac-Man«, »Dungeons & Dragons« and many more.

Tim Miller and Blur Studio have already proven with »Love, Death & Robots« that they know how to do anthology series. We are definitely already hyped! And if you still want to see for yourselves how serious the creator is about »Secret Level«, you should watch Tim Miller’s emotional speech at Gamescom:

23.08.2024 • ANIME IN MIDDLE-EARTH
The long wait is over: We finally got the first trailer for the animated film »The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim« - and wow, what a first impression that made us shiver from the 40 second mark when the Rohirrim go into battle and the horn sounds. Like back in the original trilogy, on the Pelennor Fields, when Theoden commanded his riders...

https://youtu.be/gCUg6Td5fgQ

»The War of the Rohirrim« is not about the war of the rings, but about the events 200 years earlier. We will be able to experience the story of Helm Hammerhand (the last king of the First Line) as an anime adventure. For this project, Warner Bros. brought an experienced director on board: Kenji Kamiyama, who is known for »Eden of the East« and »Akira« among others.

The trailer is promising, even if the animation didn't completely convince us. But hey, we can get a more accurate picture of it from mid-December. Because then »The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim« will hit cinemas worldwide!

What do you think of the animation sequences and are you eager to watch the film?

22.08.2024 • NEW IN CINEMAS TODAY

Today, three new films are opening in the cinema that deserve a mention (albeit for very different reasons).

BLINK TWICE

We know Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle in »The Batman« or as Bonnie Carlson in the HBO series »Big Little Lies«. With »Blink Twice« she is now making her directorial debut.

When self-made man and tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) at a charity event, sparks fly. She, accompanied by her friend Jess, accepts Slater's invitation to a dream vacation on his private island. A handful of King's friends and business partners are there as well. The group is completed by Slater's assistant Stacy, who brings three women to the island with her. As more and more strange things start to happen, Frida questions her reality ...

The trailer cleverly builds up tension and clearly makes you want more:

BORDERLANDS

For a long time, video game adaptations seemed almost impossible due to the rather mediocre results, until series like »Arcane«, »The Last of Us« and »Fallout« elicited an approving "There you go, it can be done!" from us.

»Borderlands«, the adaptation of the looter shooter of the same name, probably doesn't fall into this category. Director Eli Roth has proven with films like »Hostel« and »Cabin Fever« that he is not exactly squeamish, but a PG 13 rating does not give us much hope. A Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 10% does not make us feel very optimistic either. Many people are already calling it the worst film of the year. What tempted Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis to star in this film? Maybe they just wanted to do something really silly, or the payment was an offer they couldn't refuse. Here's the trailer:
https://youtu.be/Icnysn53neU?si=h

HORIZON: AN AMERICAN SAGA - CHAPTER 1

Kevin Costner has had a dream for 30 years. Four films, each 3 hours long. An epic that was to become the western of all westerns. The first part, »Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1«, is now coming to cinemas. Part 2 has already been shot, and part 3 is in production.

The current state of affairs is unfortunately somewhat sobering for Costner. »Horizon« was panned by critics in Cannes and failed at the American box office. Part 2 was originally supposed to be released there in August, but was postponed indefinitely after the debacle. Perhaps a streaming provider will get involved to enable Costner to complete his 12-hour work. Perhaps it would have been wiser to create »Horizon« as a TV series from the start, although majestic landscape shots certainly speak for the big screen.

»Horizon« tells a complex story in four storylines that will probably only be brought together in the course of the subsequent parts. We think a final verdict will only be possible once the epic is completed. We hope that Costner will be able to do it. We can of course support this by going to the cinema. Here is the trailer:
https://youtu.be/YYsReoZMj1k

21.08.2024 • WE AND THE KINGS OF THE SNAKE MEN AT TOYPLOSION
After the German version of the book KINGS OF THE SNAKE MEN about Axel Giménez and Leonardo Vega by the author Timo Mrazek, the wait for the English version will soon come to an end:
At TOYPLOSION on September 14, 2024, KINGS OF THE SNAKE MEN will celebrate its world premier IN ENGLISH at our booth. And get this: All three artists will be special guests at the con to introduce the book, answer all your questions and sign your copies!
20.08.2024 • BLACK MYTH: WUKONG
The long awaited »Black Myth: Wukong« was finally released in the morning hours. In the game you take on the role of Monkey King Sun Wukong, one of the most famous characters of Chinese mythology. The content of the game is based on the events of the Chinese novel »The Journey to the West«, which was published in the 16th century.

The game was able to generate a huge hype in advance. One of the reasons for that are the impressive graphics, which will especially appeal to all those who already feel a longing for the Far East. In addition, there is a spectacular-looking combat system that allows you to combine close and ranged combat as well as magic attacks. Since the game will probably contain over 80 boss enemies, a creative arrangement of the different weapon types will likely be crucial for your success in the game.

»Black Myth: Wukong« was released today for PC and PS5. The Xbox release will follow soon.

If you are just as fascinated by the Monkey King as we are, we recommend that you take a look at the Sun Wukong the Monkey King - Golden Sage figure announced by Four Horsemen, which is not based on the game, but has also been inspired by the novel.

And let's hope that InArt will also license the 1/6 action figure shown at San Diego Comic Con for Europe, because the appearance of that piece made us go ape!
19.08.2024 • THE SUBSTANCE
Have you ever dreamt of a better version of yourself?
You. Only better in every way.
Seriously.
You've got to try this new product. It's called The Substance.
It changed my life.

It's a good time for horror films right now! The genre's market share is constantly growing and the days when horror films were a niche product avoided by film critics are long gone. »The Substance« by Coralie Fargeat (»Revenge«) was nominated for the Palme d'Or in Cannes this year and won the award for best screenplay. And critics are celebrating the film euphorically.

Here's the premise:
Elisabeth Sparkle, played by Demi Moore, is the star of an aerobics show. On her 50th birthday she is fired due to her age. She unexpectedly receives a tempting offer. Using a miraculous "substance" she can transform into a younger self. In her new perfect form she calls herself Sue (Margaret Qualley). Every seven days she has to swap bodies ...

Fargeat consistently condenses this thought experiment about beauty ideals, aging and toxic media into a hardcore body horror. The trailer really makes you want to see the film and shows the premise, but fortunately doesn't give away too much of the impending horror:
https://youtu.be/LNlrGhBpYjc

The film will be released in cinemas in September.
15.08.2024 • ALIEN: ROMULUS - IN THEATERS TODAY
Today, »Alien: Romulus« opens in cinemas. Fede Alvarez's film takes place in the time between »Alien« and »Aliens«, exactly between the two most popular films of the series. Our Mick had the opportunity to watch »Alien: Romulus« in a preview last night. Here comes his impression:

It begins with the awakening of a spaceship. The onboard computer starts up. The lights gradually come on. The images exude the charm of the retro-futuristic design and they are a wonderful reference to »Alien« from 1979. It felt like coming home. I made myself comfortable in my cinema seat; this promised to be the film I had been waiting for for a long time.

After the spaceship scene, the film is dedicated to the introduction of the main characters and world building. We get to know the monotonous and hopeless life of the main characters Rain (Cailee Spaeny) and Andy (David Jonsson) in the darkness of a mining colony. Together with four other young colonists, they travel to the Romulus space station, which has crashed in orbit, to steal five cryo pods …

Camera work and set design create fantastic images that I can't get enough of. Fede Alvarez shows himself to be a true fan and as a horror director he delivers and creates intensity and tension with a good sense of timing in a believable setting with many handmade effects. It is a straightforward and very entertaining horror film without philosophical frills, a film by a fan for fans. There are many familiar elements, and we get a kind of "best of" of the previous films, but at the same time Alvarez shies away from trying anything really new. In terms of gore and violence, it could have gone a bit further for my taste. Of course there are also CGI effects that work well for the most part, with one not so successful exception, which I cannot go into here without spoiling it.

Cailee Spaeny does a very good job as the female lead character. Her relationship with her stepbrother Andy in particular forms the emotional anchor of the story, and at the same time she follows in great footsteps. She does not have the charisma of an Sigourney Weaver (Ellen Ripley), but the comparison is not entirely fair. David Jonsson as Andy delivers the best performance in the whole film. With his multi-layered portrayal of an android, he is already making »Alien« history.

»Alien: Romulus« is a good film - not perfect, but exciting and entertaining. As an »Alien« fan, I had a lot of fun in the cinema with this declaration of love for the old films. If you are an »Alien« fan, too, you should definitely watch »Alien: Romulus« - best on the big screen!

We're excited to hear your opinion - and we are also excited to see if any other brands besides NECA will dare to put a hand on this license ...
14.08.2024 • THE BEAR: KING OF THE KITCHEN
Today, we have a very special recommendation for you for a TV series that actually doesn't really fit in the usual S.P.A.C.E pattern - but we have to put this one on your watch-list: The Bear: King of the Kitchen!

When hearing »The Bear« you might assume that we're talking about a new "Discovery" animal documentation or another cooking show like »The Taste« or so. Nope, »The Bear« for us is one of the most thrilling, exciting and so to say razor sharp produced drama series that currently are available on all streaming platforms!

In season 1 which already launched in late 2022 in the US, we get to meet star chef Carmen 'Carmy' Berzatto who inherited the Italian fast food restaurant "The Beef" from his passed-away brother Michael. "The Beef" will be turned into "The Bear" - but that's all we can spoiler. You should definately find out the rest on your own - especially if you liked »Shameless« and the leading actor Jeremy Allen White who plays Carmy in »The Bear«.

The 3rd season went up on HULU a couple of weeks ago and is now hitting Disney+ in other countries finally. Of course, season 1 and 2 are still available. So make yourself a tasty Italian Beef Sandwich and binge the first episodes of »The Bear« if you are into hot food from hell's kitchen or just need a brake from all the superhero, fantasy or SciFi stuff.
Show 61 to 80 (of in total 1190 news)
