Today, three new films are opening in the cinema that deserve a mention (albeit for very different reasons).
BLINK TWICE
We know Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle in »The Batman« or as Bonnie Carlson in the HBO series »Big Little Lies«. With »Blink Twice« she is now making her directorial debut.
When self-made man and tech billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum) meets cocktail waitress Frida (Naomi Ackie) at a charity event, sparks fly. She, accompanied by her friend Jess, accepts Slater's invitation to a dream vacation on his private island. A handful of King's friends and business partners are there as well. The group is completed by Slater's assistant Stacy, who brings three women to the island with her. As more and more strange things start to happen, Frida questions her reality ...

BORDERLANDS
For a long time, video game adaptations seemed almost impossible due to the rather mediocre results, until series like »Arcane«, »The Last of Us« and »Fallout« elicited an approving "There you go, it can be done!" from us.
»Borderlands«, the adaptation of the looter shooter of the same name, probably doesn't fall into this category. Director Eli Roth has proven with films like »Hostel« and »Cabin Fever« that he is not exactly squeamish, but a PG 13 rating does not give us much hope. A Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 10% does not make us feel very optimistic either. Many people are already calling it the worst film of the year. What tempted Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and Jamie Lee Curtis to star in this film? Maybe they just wanted to do something really silly, or the payment was an offer they couldn't refuse. HORIZON: AN AMERICAN SAGA - CHAPTER 1
Kevin Costner has had a dream for 30 years. Four films, each 3 hours long. An epic that was to become the western of all westerns. The first part, »Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1«, is now coming to cinemas. Part 2 has already been shot, and part 3 is in production.
The current state of affairs is unfortunately somewhat sobering for Costner. »Horizon« was panned by critics in Cannes and failed at the American box office. Part 2 was originally supposed to be released there in August, but was postponed indefinitely after the debacle. Perhaps a streaming provider will get involved to enable Costner to complete his 12-hour work. Perhaps it would have been wiser to create »Horizon« as a TV series from the start, although majestic landscape shots certainly speak for the big screen.
»Horizon« tells a complex story in four storylines that will probably only be brought together in the course of the subsequent parts. We think a final verdict will only be possible once the epic is completed. We hope that Costner will be able to do it. We can of course support this by going to the cinema. Here is the trailer:
