There's just over two months until »The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power« starts on September 2nd on Amazon Prime Video!

When the first teasers were released four months ago, the enthusiasm of fans and critics was rather limited. The teasers were quickly taken apart frame by frame, and prophecies of doom were raised that already predicted a disaster. We think it's a bit early for such pessimism.

An article in EMPIRE MAGAZINE with statements from the showrunners about the already fully developed five seasons of the series and the image of a tower against the light made us look forward to an epic adventure.

Now an IGN interview with the production team revealed new interesting facts about the series. First of all, we will meet female orcs for the first time! And there will probably be far less CGI bombast than feared. To confirm this, a batch of photos of series Orcs in classic handmade F/X make-up was published with the article.

We're certainly looking forward to seeing these pretty-ugly fellows in action, not to mention plenty of opportunities for fantastic collectibles. Who do you think is going to grab the licenses for the Second Age?

Let's go to the movies and pay homage to the King of Rock'n'Roll! Today, after eight years of hard work, Baz Luhrmann's biopic »Elvis« is finally hitting cinemas. Even if the film is sometimes accused of glorifying Elvis in a very one-sided way and the downsides are neglected a bit, that shouldn't stop us from wallowing in the music and the pictures.

And as the trailer already shows, the great expressionist Luhrmann pulls out all the stops here. Then there's this Austin Butler, who only caught a glimpse of our attention in »Once Upon a Time In... Hollywood«. He crawls under Elvis' skin and makes the king his own with skin and hair and swinging hips. We're looking forward to an Oscar-worthy performance and we're sure we'll be hearing more from Butler in the future. We're also looking forward to Tom Hanks under pounds of make-up in the unfamiliar role of the antagonist, Elvis Presley's manager Colonel Tom Parker.

If you are an Elvis fans, then today It's Now or Never and off to the cinema, Shake, Rattle and Roll as you probably Can't Help Falling in Love with this movie. And if you're not an Elvis fan, Don't Be Cruel and have a nice evening at the Heartbreak Hotel.

»Game of Thrones« is the highest-grossing series in HBO history. Even if the final season ended a little rushed and rather unsatisfactorily for many fans, the success of the series made sure that one thing became clear very quickly: it wasn't the last time that HBO was visiting Westeros.

With his »Ice and Fire« novels, George R. R. Martin created a large and rich world with a historical background of more than 10,000 years. There is of course a lot of material that calls for serial processing. The prequel »House of the Dragon«, which takes place about 200 years before the events of the parent series and revolves around a bloody family feud in the house of the Targaryens, starts on August 21st.

Other series ideas on Westeros history are also juggled, such as »10,000 Ships« (Nymeria) or a series based on Martin's »Dunk and Egg« novels, which are also set in Westeros before the GoT events.

According to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER a sequel starring Kit Harington as Jon Snow is also in development. Disney did it with »Marvel« and »Star Wars«. Take a fan-favorite character like Loki or Boba Fett and give the character its own spin-off series.

What else can come in the case of a Jon Snow series? Because his story was actually told to the end and it has nothing to do with the »Ice and Fire« novels. It remains to be seen whether the series will actually come. Of course, that also depends on how successful »House of the Dragon« will be - and some series ideas never leave development hell. So there's still a lot of water flowing down the Trident before Jon Snow perhaps returns.

From time to time, takeovers or fusions do happen also in the world of collectibles. We still have in mind that the brand »Gentle Giant« was passed on more than once.

Now »Funko, Inc.«, best known for their giant POP! vinyl figure line, took over the Texan manufacturer »Mondo« from the movie theater chain »Alamo Drafthouse«!

Tim League, the founder of Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, announced that they would like to focus on expanding its chain of movie theaters after the pandemic and are handing over the "pop culture" division rather to capable hands. According to Funko Mondo may stay Mondo - they probably wanted to get a larger foot in the door when it comes to action-figures and higher worthy collectibles.

Let's see what the deal will mean for us collectors on long term ...

Although the current temperatures are rather good for a swim, there are three movies worth to be mentioned that hit (hopefully well air-conditioned) movie theaters today ...

Nicolas Cage can play anything - even himself, or rather, the fictional version of himself! And he does that in the comedy »The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent «, which is finally starting also in German cinemas. The plot may be a bit run-of-the-mill, but Cage, who once again throws himself into the role wholeheartedly, proves his massive comedic talent and with all the references to his previous cinematic work, the film surely is a must-see for all Cage fans. In interaction with Pedro Pascal, the two actors deliver a wonderful bromance.

We met Buzz Lightyear as an action-figure in the »Toy Story« movies. »Lightyear« is now practically the movie that inspired the action-figure. Clever move!

Then we are very curious about »Dark Glasses«, the first Dario Argento film in 10 years. Initial reviews confirm that the Giallo Maestro is returning to his old form which not only makes us happy but also very excited about the flick.

The current motif of the S.P.A.C.E Postcard Collection will probably make the hearts of all »Masters of the Universe« fans - actually the hearts of the followers of the »Evil Horde« - beat faster!

At the end of »Ghostbusters: Afterlife«, the Ecto-1 crosses the Brooklyn Bridge towards Manhattan. The promise that the journey is not over yet and that we can count on more could be read from this. The success of the film then did its part ...

Writer and director Jason Reitman has now confirmed that the Ghostbusters sequel is coming! The story, which currently has the working title »Firehouse«, takes us back to the Big Apple. Reitman describes the film as “the next chapter in the Spengler family story”.

So we can count on Carrie Coon as Callie, Finn Wolfhard as her son Trevor and Mckenna Grace as her daughter Phoebe. Whether Paul Rudd and the original Ghostbusters Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray will also be on board is not yet known. But we are counting on one or the other cameo appearance.

But the proton packs are already heating up elsewhere. Netflix is ​​planning a new Ghostbusters animated series in collaboration with Sony Pictures Animation and the »Ghostbusters: Afterlife« duo Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan.

And Winston Zeddemore actor Ernie Hudson revealed at a Countdown City Geeks panel that a new video game is also in the works.

The film »Joker« was a great success and crowned Joaquin Phoenix's performance with an Oscar. No wonder, then, that the question quickly arose as to whether there would be a »Joker 2«. Director Todd Phillips didn't seem averse and Phoenix has said in the past he has "mixed feelings" on the matter.

Then, on June 8, Phillips posted two pictures to Instagram, confirming that a sequel will be coming. The first image shows a script bound in red with the title »Joker: Folie à Deux« and the addition "written by Scott Silver & Todd Phillips". The second photo then shows Joaquin Phoenix who appears to be reading this script.

The working title »Folie à Deux« naturally gives rise to a lot of speculation. Such a mental disorder as a couple is most likely to apply to the toxic relationship between the Joker and Dr. Harleen Frances Quinzel (better known as Harley Quinn), whom the Joker meets at the place where the first film ends - at Arkham Asylum. So it seems more than likely that we'll get to see Harley Quinn, or at least a character modeled after her, in the second film. Of course, the question of the cast is particularly exciting here. Which actress can embody the counterpart in this insane duo ...

On the second day of GEEKED WEEK, NETFLIX was introducing 12 new films. For us, Netflix remains the series broadcaster. When it comes to films, it's often hit or miss, because everything that used to be labeled "Direct to DVD" now tends to end up on Netflix. This is especially true of »Interceptor«, which is already online and has a sad score of 4.4 in the IMDb. The film continues the tradition of very weak films, such as the unfunny comedies »The Bubble« or »Red Notice«, which failed mercilessly with the critics despite the star cast. »Interceptor« is unfortunately boring, because it's predictable and leading actress Elsa Pataky lacks charisma.

There are first trailers for two Norwegian productions that look very promising. The title already reveals the theme of the fantasy action adventure »Troll«. »Blasted« is about an old friendship, an alien invasion and laser tag. The science fiction comedy comes up with quite bizarre characters.

Nothing can be said about the Spanish production »Killer Book Club«, a slasher based on the novel by Carlos García Miranda, nor about the Japanese »Zom100: Bucket List of the Dead«, a live-action adaptation of the manga of the same name with zombies.

»The School for Good & Evil« acted as one of the headliners with its own panel in the film showcase. The teaser for the fantasy flick hasn't caught up with us yet. The film also seems to be aimed at a younger audience.

Here are a few films with names that at least make us prick up our ears. Jamie Foxx stars as a vampire slayer in »Day Shift«, directed by stuntman J.J. Perry, which promises hand-made action.

The sci-fi crime thriller »Spiderhead« directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and starring Chris Hemsworth (Thor) deals with interesting topics and could possibly become something.

The second headliner on film day was »The Gray Man« with Ana de Armas (Blade Runner 2049), Chris Evans (Captain America) and Ryan Gosling (La La Land). The Russo Brothers, who have proven with their Marvel films that they know their craft, took over the direction here. We'll take a risk and take a look.

Also no stranger is Zack Snyder (300), who shoots the sci-fi fantasy epic »Rebel Moon« with Sofia Boutella (The Mummy) and Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy). We will also put that on our watch list.

In addition, two animated films were presented: »The Sea Beast« seems to us to be a film for the whole family. But we're really curious about »Wendell & Wild«, because it's none other than Henry Selick (Coraline, Nightmare Before Christmas) behind it!

Wednesday was all about animation. Of particular interest here is »Cyberpunk: Edgerunners," based on the CD Projekt Red video game. And all MOTU fans are sure to be curious about »Masters of the Universe: Revolution«, the sequel to the Kevin Smith series »Masters of the Universe: Revelation«.

Yesterday, Warner Bros. Pictures finally released the first long trailer for »Black Adam«!

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson does a good job as the titular anti-hero. The trailer also introduces Pierce Brosnan as Dr. Fate, who also makes his superhero debut here.

On top of that, we're getting a brief flashback on Black Adam's backstory. He was a tough anti-hero who lets it rip and isn't stingy with painterly explosions.

The trailer with its proper portion of subtle humor really got us excited for the movie and we can already see ourselves unloading tons of Black Adam collectibles from upcoming containers. Black "The Rock" Adam is scheduled to hit theaters in October!

It's finally here - the epic finale of the Jurassic era! Universal Pictures' "»Jurassic World Dominion« hits theaters this week. In Germany you could already go on a dinosaur expedition since yesterday.

After the dinosaurs fought their way free from the volcanic island in »Jurassic World 2«, everyone could imagine what awaits us now. A "coexistence" of the most dangerous creatures: men and dinosaurs.

The trailer already shows a few highlights that we can look forward to, because not only our favorite giants from the previous five parts are now reunited, but also the "old guard" is back together. Sam Neill as Dr. Alan Grant, Jeff Goldblum as Dr. Ian Malcom and Laura Dern as Dr. Ellie Sattler. Let's hope they get a longer appearance than Jeff Goldblum in »Jurassic World 2«, because we're very curious as to what they've been up to over the years.

Even if the first reviews are unfortunately not that great, »Jurassic World« is worth a cinema ticket simply because of the visual power. We are excited ...

This week, NETFLIX is celebrating »Geeked Week« for the second time and is presenting upcoming series and movies from the streaming provider to all subscribers and those who might want to become one. As the title already suggests, this is not about the »Schwarzwaldklinik« but about geeky offerings from the genres of horror, science fiction, fantasy, mystery and thriller. Monday was all about the Netflix series. New trailers, sneak peeks and behind-the-scenes clips were shown and many of those involved had their say in interviews and short statements.

A total of eleven series are getting another season, including »The Umbrella Academy«. Season 3 starts here on June 22nd, 2022. For »Locke & Key« it will be over after the upcoming 3rd season and »Manifest« is also looking forward to the 4th and final season. »Sweet Tooth«, »All of Us AreDead«, »Vikings: Valhalla« and several other shows will get a second season.

Among the ten newly presented series there is also a lot that encourages us to jump for joy here and there or at least makes us curious in quite optimistic expectation.

We're looking forward to the Addams Family spin-off »Wednesday« because Wednesday Addams and director Tim Burton go together just like martini and olive.

Guillermo del Toro has been one of our favorite filmmakers and authors for a long time, so of course we are very excited about the anthology series »Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities« he produced. He took the director's chair for two episodes and the other episodes are also told by respected horror creators.

Mike Flanagan is a name to be reckoned with in the horror genre. So it's logical that his series »The Midnight Club« ended up on our watch list.

We are also curious about the »1899« series from the »DARK« makers. That could also be exciting.

We're cautiously optimistic about the »Resident Evil« series. The quickly edited action trailer doesn't yet provide us with enough material, so we're holding back on speculation.

And then there are two big names from comics and anime who are now experiencing their implementation as a live-action series. We are talking about »The Sandman«. The comic film adaptation starts on August 5th, 2022.

We also got really big eyes with the behind-the-scenes clip for »One Piece«. There's a lot of work going on at the shooting location in South Africa. At least that looks very promising.

With everything Netflix has presented, the series freaks among us will all get their money's worth.

After the STAR WARS CELEBRATION heralded the convention season at the end of May with a blast, the next highlight was on the program last weekend with MONSTERPALOOZA at Pasadena Convention Center.

Monsterpalooza is considered one of the best horror conventions in the world. The focus of the event is on classic horror, including characters from B-movies from Hollywood's Golden Age and modern horror, sci-fi and fantasy films. The built museum features props, masks, life-size figures and film creatures from participating Hollywood FX studios and artists. With so much monster art, our hearts just melt. Fans just can't get any closer to their beloved monsters. In addition to various presentations and panels, there are workshops that focus on monster crafting, like makeup demonstrations and creature effects.

There were also plenty of star guests at this first Monsterpalooza Post-Corona-Con. Tim Curry (Rocky Horror Picture Show, It), Neve Cambpell (Scream), Doug Bradley (Hellraiser), Kane Hodder (Friday the 13th VII-X), Tom Savini (From Dusk Till Dawn), Heather Langenkamp (A Nightmare on Elm Street), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and many others gathered there.

Of course, various manufacturers who dedicate themselves to monsters from time to time were also represented with their own booth. The usual suspects here included Elite Creature Collectibles, X-Plus, PCS and Tweeterhead. We were particularly curious about the last one mentioned, because they had previously announced the premiere of the first statue in the new original concept line »Myths and Monsters«. So the unpainted Gillman could be admired at the Tweeterhead booth - a promising concept, as we think.

To be honest, for us a dream (or nightmare) would come true if we'd one day had the chance to visit Monsterpalooza. It stands very high on the list of the placed-to-be ...

Finally conventions again! Finally manufacturers on site again and real booth tours. Even if everyone has made a real effort over the past three years to keep us up to date with their own YouTube formats, zoom calls and virtual presentations, the live presence at a con is something completely different. We really missed going on discovery on the social media channels and coming across photos of new reveals or, ideally, attending a big convention ourselves (which will also come).

STAR WARS CELEBRATION 2022 gave us a taste of what to expect from San Diego Comic Con. Of course, the biggest players in the collectibles world also had the biggest presence, measured by media output and booth size. Although others such as Gentle Giant were also represented, the Sideshow booth and Hasbro were the places where most of the new toys were to be admired.

Sideshow Collectibles showed many figures in premium format, all of them are already in the pre-order phase. C-3PO goes one step further in terms of scale, because he comes in life-size. Holy Force!

As always, the California-based manufacturer also showed products from other companies that they distribute. From Iron Studios there was the fantastic 1/4 Darth Maul to see and in 1/10 art scale format the Cad Bane statue, which we as Star Wars fans and friends of the Italo-Western are equally looking forward to.

But Hot Toys took the cake. The biggest bang here are the new »Clone Wars« vehicles. We have already listed the two BARC Speeders in the pre-orders. The AT-RT will be added shortly. There were several new figures among the »Bad Batch«. The chic Clone Trooper in the Chrome version and the Death Trooper in a no less chic Black Chrome version were shown as exclusives. The new »Obi-Wan Kenobi« series also made its debut at Hot Toys. Darth Vader was shown and Obi-Wan was announced. We firmly expect that more characters will be launched at Comic Con. Can we count on kids from Hot Toys for the first time? We can definitely look forward to the brothers and sisters from the Inquisition.

Which brings us to Hasbro, who even had their own panel at the celebration. For the Obi-Wan series there was a whole bunch of figures in both the Vintage Collection and the Black Series. In addition to Obi-Wan, all Inquisitors can be found here. The small L0-LA59 (Lola) droid as a 1:1 animatronic will be very cool and sure to be a hit. And a very popular exclusive collector's item from Hasbro will definitely be the Jon Favreau as Paz Vizsla figure, just very cool! Of course we will try to grab some of the exclusives as well. And we're already heading full throttle towards Comic Con. Stay tuned!

"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the most drop dead gorgeous one of all?"
For our product of the month June we picked a very special lady. Drum roll for Cassandra Peterson! Of course, she's better known as her alter ego - Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.

In this role she hosted the Horror B-Picture show »Movie Macabre« from 1981 to 1993. With her sexy gothic look somewhere between Vampira and Morticia Addams, her great sense of black humor and her quick wit, she quickly became a genre icon herself and is still one of the most well-known TV personalities in the USA. In Germany, she became known to a wider audience primarily through the film »Elvira: Mistress of the Dark« from 1988.

NECA presents the horror hostess as a fully articulated and great looking action-figure in 8" figural doll format with two exchangeable heads and creepy accessories. For us, she is a character that is simply fun and will definitely enrich every horror collection - or of course also ensures order, in case Freddy or Jason get too wild again.

And how could it be otherwise, the last sentence of this presentation of our product of the month belongs to the horror queen herself:
"Oh well, there's nothing wrong with G-rated movies, as long as there's lots of sex and violence."

For the past four days, Anaheim, California has been the epicenter of the Force. After three years of being forced to take a break due to the pandemic, the STAR WARS CELEBRATION finally opened its doors again. A lot has happened in these three years. Disney+ was launched and the Star Wars franchise entered an exciting new phase with the new Star Wars live-action series.

Now fans, stars and creators finally had the great opportunity to celebrate Star Wars and themselves extensively. And they did with fantastic cosplay performances, new trailers, interviews, panels, exhibitions and lots of fun and action.

The list of guests was long, from Star Wars veterans Anthony Daniels (C-3PO) and Ian McDiarmid (Emperor Palpatine) to Ewan McGregor (Obi-Wan Kenobi) and Hayden Christensen (Darth Vader), who celebrated their reunion in the »Obi Wan Kenobi« series that started on Friday, up to Rosario Dawson as the titular heroine Ahsoka Tano in the »Ahsoka« series, which will start in 2023.

From the many often very entertaining interviews and presentations there is also a lot of news to report.

During the presentation titled »Mando+«, Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni surprised attendees by bringing Rosario Dawson on stage. She has been shooting »Ahsoka« for three weeks. Along with some footage, two characters from »Star Wars: Rebels« have been announced as part of the series. Actress Natasha Liu Bordizzo will portray Sabine Wren. The character Hera Syndulla will also be there. It is not yet known who plays her. Two other actresses have been cast for »Ahsoka«, but their roles have not yet been officially announced: Ivanna Sakhno and Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Possibly one of them will play Hera. Droid C1-10P aka Chopper will also be on board.

Katee Sackhoff will return as Bo-Katan in »The Mandalorian«! And she will probably play a bigger role. Season 3 will take us to Mandalore. The season starts in February 2023.

The new series »Star Wars: Skeleton Crew« was also announced, in which Jude Law will play an important role. Jon Watts will direct. The series takes place in the time of »The Mandalorian«, »The Book of Boba Fett« and »Ahsoka«. The show, which will stream in 2023, follows a group of kids who get lost in the galaxy and need to find their way home.

Last Friday, we already linked the trailers for »Andor« (start date: August 31st) and »Willow« (start date: November 30th). Additionally we got the trailers for »Star Wars: The Bad Batch« Season 2 and for the video game »Jedi: Survivor«.

The first moving images for »The Mandalorian« Season 3 and »Ahsoka« have also been shown - but these were yet exclusively for the fans on site.

There was a very informative and exciting look behind the scenes on Saturday with the presentation »Behind the Scenes of The Mandalorian & The Book of Boba Fett«. The exhibition »The Mandalorian Experience« with props, models and costumes from »The Mandalorian« was also worth seeing and certainly a highlight for the visitors. You can find a lot of walk-through videos on YouTube.

We already mentioned the grand finale of the Lucasfilm Studio Showcase on Friday. In honor of legendary composer John Williams' 90th birthday, Williams conducted the Pacific Symphony Orchestra through three compositions. It began with the debut of his score from the Disney+ series »Obi-Wan Kenobi«, followed by the iconic theme from »Indiana Jones«. The biggest surprise was that Indiana Jones himself, Harrison Ford, took the stage to honor the great man and announce the release date for the fifth Indi-movie (June 29, 2023). To conclude the presentation, Williams conducted »The Imperial March« from »The Empire Strikes Back«. Pure goosebumps!

There were of course also a few premieres of new collectibles, but we'll tell you about them in a separate news article. This is the way!

Dear STAR WARS fans, Lucasfilm and Disney are giving us a really nice treatment this weekend. From today, we can finally enjoy not only the long-awaited »Obi-Wan Kenobi« series, but thanks to Star Wars Celebration 2022, that started off yesterday, there are millions of midi--chlorians everywhere around us!

Actually before Celebration kicked off, two brand-hot teaser trailers were dropped online: the one on the next STAR WARS Disney+ series »Andor« and a incredibly impressive teaser on »Willow«, the sequel to the 80's classic with Warwick Davis and Val Kilmer - definately check that out :).

The STAR WARS happening itself surely had a proper grand opening. None the less than maestro John Williams was on stage, conducting his orchestra and presented the world premiere of the »Obi-Wan Kenobi« theme to the fans. How unbelievable was this moment probably ... Congratulations to everybody who had the chance to experience this live on site.

Of course many manufacturers are coming up with the first con exclusives and new reveals. We surely can expect a lot from Sideshow and Hot Toys, like for example new stuff from »Clone Wars« (Barc Speeder and AT-RT) or a life-size C-3PO! Beware that all these impressions won't make your wirings melt down ...

In the early 2010s, the Taiwanese manufacturer Asmus Toys was still one of many small brands bustling about in the colorful sixth-scale world. In March 2013 they surprised the community with a »Lord of the Rings« license for 1/6 scale collectible figures. Today, some good nine years later, the figures from »The Lord of the Rings« and »The Hobbit« are still the flagships in the manufacturer's growing range. At the latest with Gandalf and the Crown Series, they have played their way into the premier league of figure makers.
