Matching the first delivery of the ORIGINS there are special news from Eternia today, including a small review or conclusion in the video of MotUDad...
Already more than two months have passed that DC or actually Jim Lee himself invited fans worldwide to their first virtual DC event, the »DC FanDome«. Tomorrow is the day: the ultimate DC Fan Experience will kick off!
Originally this spectacular was set as one event over 24 hours (which was how they announced it in the first teaser clip). Because of the huge agenda and the pleasant anticipation of the fans, the DC crew decided on very short notice to make it a two-part event instead:
This Saturday, 22nd August, we all can be guests at the »Hall of Heroes«. We will be served - eventually in even 9 languages - a thrilling 8-hour program with a mix of panels and exclusive reveals on DC movies, TV series, games, comics and more. The show will air three times during the 24-hour period. Launch is 10 am PDT (American time) which equals Saturday evening 7 pm CET!
Three weeks later, so on 12th September, they will take us in round two, with the »DC FanDome: Explore the Multiverse«. There we will have access to over 100 hours of on-demand-content! You can even schedule your personalized program through the official event-website DCFanDome.com - how cool is that?!
We are really excited about what DC will bring to everyone's screen or smartphone or tablet! Hopefully there will be some great new collectibles along - but as excuse we would of course also accept a teaser on THE BATMAN or THE SUICIDE SQUAD ;)
Our POP CON AT HOME or SDCC AT HOME is already almost 4 weeks behind. Of course many manufacturers and studios have used this happening to bring their news to all fans worldwide on their home screens.
The one or other brand that you would normally walk by on the showfloor in San Diego was missing at all the online events. So KOTOBUKIYA has now surprisingly announced its own little live streaming event - the »Kotobukiya Expo 2020 Summer«.
It will take place on the two upcoming Sundays (August 23rd and 30th) and the news and product reveals will be divided into thematic blocks. Details can be found in the announcement flyer. Let's hope that Koto will keep the streams online, because otherwise it would mean "setting the alarm clock to 3am" for us.
It's Trailer Tuesday again and this time we have two films, a series and two games on the watch or playlist. Maybe there's something exciting for you.
Movies
THE DEVIL ALL THE TIME
A Netflix prestige project based on the award-winning novel »The Devil all the Time« by Donald Ray Pollock. The well-known cast invites us to a sighting: i.a. Robert Pattinson, Sebastian Stan, Tom Holland, Bill Skarsgård and Mia Wasikowska. It will arrive on September 16th on Netflix.
THE OWNERS
The horror thriller starring Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) is based on the acclaimed graphic novel »Une Nuit de Pleine Lun« by Hermann and Yves H. The trailer for this cat and mouse game piqued our interest. Unfortunately there is no date for a German release yet.
Series
AWAY
The sci-fi drama series with Oscar winner Hilary Swank focuses primarily on the human and family aspects of a Mars mission. We weren't quite convinced by the trailer yet, but we love Hilary Swank. So let's tune into Netflix on September 4th.
Games
CYBERPUNK 2077 Gameplay Trailer
After this six minute gameplay trailer at the latest, we are all hooked on »Cyberpunk 2077«.
REMOTHERED: Broken Porcelain - Residents of Ashmann Inn
As is well known, we have a heart for atmospheric horror games. So it's no wonder that “Remothered: Broken Porcelain - Residents of Ashmann Inn” caught our attention. That might be something for our wish list to Santa.
It was to be feared that the Disney blockbuster MULAN, after its original start date in March, would rather not get a chance to appear on the big screen. Now it is clear that the film will be released directly on the in-house streaming service Disney+, on September 4.
Those who are already looking forward to it now, because they own a Disney+ subscription, will be a bit disillusioned right away. To get Mulan on TV you have to pay - probably - 30,- EUR for a so-called "Premier Access" (the amount in the USA is $29,99)! So if you want to get the cinema experience at home, you should share the costs with your family or friends - this way you get away cheaper than by visiting the theater. The movie can be watched as often as you want - provided you don't cancel your subscription, of course. ;)
The final trailer, which was released yesterday, makes it clear that the scenes on the TV at home will not be as powerful as they could be though. But from Disney's point of view it's completely understandable that somehow they still try to get at least a decent turnover with the blockbuster. Depending on how long the cinema business will continue to be on the back burner, we have to expect that there will be a comparable model for many movies.
The internal restructuring at WARNER BROS. group after the takeover by AT&T - probably due to the heavy losses caused by the Covid-19 pandemic - is claiming its victims... According to media reports there will be about 650 layoffs! Many of them were responsible for the DC division, more precisely the subsidiary »DC Collectibles« or »DC Direct«, so that it can be assumed that the collectibles division of DC will actually have to close its doors after more than 22 years in the collector market.
This is of course extremely sad - first and foremost for the employees, but subsequently also for the loyal fans, collectors and enthusiasts of the company's in-house products. However, the whole thing was a bit predictable, as we think: in the last few months there were practically no more new announcements from DC, the distribution was completely shifted from Diamond to Sideshow and especially McFarlane Toys has put their foot down with the new DC Multiverse figures.
We regret this news very much, because we have always been big fans, especially of the DC statues. No matter if it was the »Bombshells« series, the always refreshing »Designer Series« or the partly wacky »Red, White & Black« Harley Quinn versions - all collector's items, which we always had on top of the radar and which were also located at fair prices. So let's keep our fingers crossed that Sideshow might at least continue the popular series or concepts of resin statues on their own under license from DC...
Today it's unbearably hot again... so on this Trailer Tuesday we dream ourselves into the darkness of a well air-conditioned cinema. Games, TV films and series will then hopefully appear at somewhat more moderate temperatures.
Games
HOOD: OUTLAWS & LEGENDS
The multiplayer game sends us into the dark middle ages, inspired by the Robin Hood story.
Movies
GET DUKED!
The trailer of this anarchic coming-of-age story against the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands has its moments. A British Amazon Prime Video production - no start date for Germany yet.
FOLLOW ME
The Corona crisis ensures that many smaller films, which otherwise would only have been released directly to DVD, come to the cinema. A chance for dirty little movies that would otherwise be drowned in the shadows of blockbusters - so maybe also for this little escape room horror.
I’M THINKING OF ENDING THINGS
A Charlie Kaufman film is always worth a "visit". The trailer promises us an interesting mind-fuck movie. Starting September 4th on Netflix.
Series
THE BOYS
Amazon is feeding our anticipation for the second season of the superhero series. On September 4th it will finally start!
RAISED BY WOLVES
The trailer for Ridley Scott's science fiction series on HBO Max is a real eye-catcher and whets the appetite for the series, which will certainly find its way into the SKY program here.
RATCHED
The series from the creators of »American Horror Story« tells the story of nurse Mildred Ratched (Sarah Paulson) from the novel/film »One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest«. The trailer definitely grabbed us! On Netflix from September 18th.
Brian Volk-Weiss, CEO and founder of the »Nacelle Company« and incidentally also one of the brains behind the popular NETFLIX series »The toys that made us«, has created a new documentary series called »A toy store near you« in the wake of the Corona crisis.
In each episode (and there are now five of them) the owners introduce their passionately owned toy store, the employees, some customers and of course the countless toys and collectibles. There is a lot to see, especially vintage toys. In addition, the shop owners give the audience a - sometimes very emotional - look behind the scenes and tell them about the challenges they are facing as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The easiest way to watch the episodes is to check out the Nacelle Company's YouTube channel. We can warmly recommend the whole thing to you, if only because of all the old toys that you will see in abundance :)
On today's Trailer Tuesday we want to share clips for one game, two series and two films with you. Even if some things still have a little question mark, we have put the titles on the watchlist.
Games
IRON HARVEST
The cinematic trailer for this diesel punk game looks really good. The game will be released on September 1st for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.
Movies
HONEST THIEF
A notorious bank robber wants to live an honest life and turns himself in, only to be double-crossed by two ruthless FBI agents. Star vehicle for Liam Neeson - well, let's see..
THE PALE DOOR
If you like westerns and horror films, you might be spot on with this genre crossover.
Series
TEENAGE BOUNTY HUNTERS
After teaming up with a veteran bounty hunter, the sixteen-year-old twin sisters Sterling and Blair plunge into the world of bail-out villains. It looks a bit cheesy, but we'll be testing the Netflix series, starting August 14th.
FARGO Season 4
Season 4 of Fargo starring Chris Rock takes us into the world of the Kansas City Mafia in the 1950s. The short trailer looks great already!
From 2006 to 2008 McFarlane Toys has started to delight die-hard fans and collectors of the »Alien / Predator« universe with magnificent action figures. The project was not precise enough, however, so that NECA outran the dear Todd for these two cult franchises and has established a figure line par excellence since 2010.
About ten years later NECA celebrates a sensational anniversary - with a sensational release: the ALPHA PREDATOR as the 100th figure in a Special Edition! For the first time, NECA's creative team has created its own concept of the beast to mark this milestone. What came out is - especially for the price of under 40 EUR - truly awesome. With a size of more than 20cm the figure is indeed an alpha animal (or -alien), the accessories and the variation possibilities are extremely versatile, the packaging design is very elaborate - all in all this Ultimate figure is an all-round successful anniversary highlight. So there is no question that the ALPHA PREDATOR was chosen as our Product of the Month August!
...we bring you back - TO THE THEATERS!
On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of »Back to the Future« - and probably also a little bit due to the lack of cinema novelties - it was announced to give the trilogy a cinema comeback! In selected Cinemaxx theaters parts 1 to 3 will be screened again, one after the other, starting today.
For your home cinema, polished versions in 4K will be released on October 22 2020, namely as "4K Steelbook Collection", "Limited Edition" (Amazon exclusive), "Mediabook" and as "Remastered Blu-ray".
So if you're up for a freshly hydrated pizza, a Pepsi Perfect in a Café of the 80's or just want to go for a ride on the Hoverboard, you can do this again on the big screen - or in autumn in 4K at your home cinema! ;)
By the way: it can't be long until we get the first shipment of BTTF Ultimate figures from NECA. The Doc has just been newly announced and you can of course already find it on our website.
Today's Trailer Tuesday is all about Comic-Con@Home. As expected, we genre fans were well served there. In addition to a rather narrow range of films, the focus here is clearly on the series.
Movies
NEW MUTANTS
»The New Mutants« has been postponed again and again and it's now scheduled to start on August 27th. In addition to the new teaser, the first two minutes of the film were also shown as a sneak preview at the virtual Comic Con. We are very excited to see how the superhero horror combination will turn out.
BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC
The new trailer now also introduces us to the next generation. We experience Samara Weaving as Thea Preston and Brigette Lundy-Paine as Billie Logan. Both very charming and funny personifications of the two daughters - that and Kevin Smith's hymn of praise greatly increased our anticipation on the movie!
Series
NEXT
The Fox series with John Slattery (»Mad Man«) deals with artificial intelligence and paranoia. The trailer gives hope for an exciting series.
HELSTROM
Unusually dark for Marvel conditions... But that's exactly what distinguishes the Hulu series. The siblings Daimon and Ana Helstrom are in the focus - the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer hunt down murderers and demons together.
THE WALKING DEAD: WORLD BEYOND
At the center of the series are some teenagers who grew up in the post-apocalyptic world and have no knowledge of the world before. The series starts on October 4th and is limited to two seasons. We still don't really look forward to the series, but let's give it a chance.
UTOPIA
Utopia is the US remake of the British series of the same name. A group of comic book fans get into a conspiracy story after they own the unpublished second part of »The Utopia Experiment«. Let's see if Amazon Prime Video can top the original.
TRUTH SEEKERS
A horror comedy series with Nick Frost and Simon Pegg as investigators of paranormal phenomena naturally has our full attention, even if not every gag ignites in this first trailer.
THE BOYS
There was a small scene from »The Boys«. Oh man, only »The Boys« can be really that bad and politically incorrect.
LOVECRAFT COUNTRY
After this atmospheric trailer we are looking forward to the series by Misha Green and Jordan Peele even more. This promises to be another highlight in the long HBO list of high-quality TV series.
Dear S.P.A.C.E Army! We would like to thank you all once again for the numerous participation in our S.P.A.C.E POP CON AT HOME LIVESTREAMS. Thanks also for the many compliments and kind words. :)
We are very happy that it was so well attended by you all - we noticed once again that we have the BEST CUSTOMERS IN THE WORLD! <3
As already announced in the livestream, we had decided together with our dear guest Patrick (@wonderbunk) to drag 3 chic, new characters in front of the camera. You can see the great results of the photo sessions here.
YOU can now vote on Instagram, which photo YOU like best! The one with the most votes will be published in a limited edition as a high quality art print. Some copies will even be raffled off!
Since this year the "real" SDCC unfortunately didn't make it, we would like to give you a small con souvenir of our S.P.A.C.E POP CON AT HOME 2020. :)
You can vote until Friday, 31.07.2020 at 12 o'clock!
A Comic Con at Home is actually quite a nice thing. Now we have the opportunity to watch a few interesting panels without crowding and long lines - and there are plenty of them! You can find a good overview here.
These are a few of our personal highlights:
TRUTH SEEKERS (Thurs. 9 p.m.) A series with Simon Pegg and Nick Frost? We clearly prick up our ears!
THE NEW MUTANTS (Thurs. 11 p.m.) Director Josh Boones and actors Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt and Henry Zaga. Ready for the next X-Men generation!
THE BOYS (Thurs. 00:00 a.m.) Showrunner Eric Kripke and the executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg as well as the actors Karl Urban and others. A clear highlight for us!
HELSTROM (Fri. 00:00 a.m.) Let's see what is said about the Hulu Marvel series!
GUILLERMO DEL TORO AND SCOTT COOPER ON ANTLERS AND FILMMAKING (Sat. 10:00 p.m.) It could be exciting!
BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC (Sat. 00:00 a.m.) Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter director Dean Parisot the writers and other actors in a panel moderated by Kevin Smith. Sounds like fun!
Only two more days until COMIC-CON@HOME. There are already a number of panels announced about the hottest series, that broadcasters and streaming services have in the pipeline. So it's no wonder that there are no series trailers today. Amazon Prime Video, HBO, Hulu and Co. saved them for spectacular Comic Con reveals.
But anyway, we have two games and a few cool movies for you on this Trailer Tuesday:
Games
OUTRIDERS
The new story trailer for the third-person shooter doesn't look bad at all. The game is scheduled to appear on all major platforms at the end of 2020.
FAR CRY 6
This trailer for »Far Cry 6« is a real treat. In addition to the look, it really appealed to us how the trailer tells its little story. Great job and a real eye-catcher in itself.
Movies
THE SHADOW OF VIOLENCE
»The Shadow of Violence« or »Calm with Horses« as the film is called in the English original tells the story of Douglas 'Arm' Armstrong who has become the feared enforcer for the drug-dealing Devers family, whilst also trying to be a good father. Torn between these two families, Arm's loyalties are tested when he is asked to kill for the first time. That looks like a crime drama with depth.
LET IT SNOW
A snowboarder not only has to fight against nature for her survival, but also against a masked snowmobile driver in black who is looking for her blood. The trailer promises ice-cold excitement with of a magnificent mountain backdrop. Will be released directly as VoD and on DVD.
TESLA
Biopics of famous scientists and inventors are currently booming. First »Marie Curie«, then »Edison« and now »Tesla« with Ethan Hawke in the title role. Due to the thematic proximity, we think the two films can very well be presented as a double feature. It will be exciting to compare them.
PROJECT POWER
What would you risk for five minutes of pure power? On the streets of New Orleans, word begins to spread about a mysterious new pill that unlocks superpowers unique to each user. The catch: You don’t know what will happen until you take it. While some develop bulletproof skin, invisibility, and super strength, others exhibit a deadlier reaction. This Netflix action cracker with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dominique Fishback and Jamie Foxx promises great excitement! It will be released on August 14 and we marked it bold on the calendar.
THE NEW MUTANTS
We no longer have to introduce »The New Mutants«... After much back and forth there is finally a start date - August 27th. A must watch for all Marvel fans! On July 23 there will be also a panel at COMIC-CON@HOME.
Soon, it will be that time of year: SAN DIEGO COMIC CON is around the corner - well, would be, actually. Of course SDCC can not take place this year because of the Covid-19 pandemic. But what would July be without Comic Con flavour?
The promoters of Comic Con, many manufacturers and of course we from the S.P.A.C.E Crew made up our minds about how to fill the nerdiest time of the year with geekness and pop culture... and so our idea for the first S.P.A.C.E POP CON AT HOME was born - and everyone is invited to join!
On the weekend from 24. to 26. July you can hang out with us live from your homes and chat with us about the hottest news, announcements and highlights! The "us" does contain great guests from abroad, as every year. As special guests we will have again our colleague Mick (@mickbaltes) and our friend Patrick (@wonderbunk) plus, for the first time, a very special special guest: Stefan (@lesgrohl). During our lives-streams on YouTube you'll be able to grab awesome goodies like shop coupons and giveaways. You can also look forward to thrilling unboxings of a bunch of new items that are not shipped yet...
What you will need is just a good internet connection, a large bucket of popcorn and of course our social media channels in your subcriptions and following lists (best thing including the alarm ring on YouTube), so you won't miss out any of our streams.
We will announce the exact time table and schedule of our streams with all the topics next week on Thursday. Are you ready? We are so excited and happy to e-meet you and we're also looking forward to the SDCC - this time in "different"!
The STAR WARS news of the week probably enchanted especially all »Clone Wars« fans among you: Disney+ has ordered the next animated series from Lucasfilm - Star Wars: The Bad Batch!
As the title already says, this series will be all about the Clone Troopers from the famous elite squad »Clone Force 99« which have been introduced and brought into the Star Wars universe in the last season of »The Clone Wars« as the Bad Batch.
Of course, mastermind Dave "most of the time I am hiding my superbrain under my cowboy hat" Filoni will lead the strings as executive producer. This basically already guarantees a great storyline.
It's likely that the crew will shortly start to write and produce, so that the show can launch on Disney+ next year :)
You mortals, let all hope go, because today's Trailer Tuesday brings you the full blast of horror. Click at your own risk! But maybe a few weird superheroes will save your day in the end...
Games
VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE: SWANSONG
Anyone who really wants bloodsucking action should be in good hands in this role-playing game. It will be released next year for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
THE DARK PICTURES: LITTLE HOPE
The trailer for the second game from the »The Dark Picture« anthology series spreads a nice scary atmosphere. The town of »Little Hope« should be worth a visit for horror fans. The game will be released just in time for Halloween on October 30th.
Movies
RANDOM ACTS OF VIOLENCE
The authors of the Slasherman comic book series notice frightening similarities between the character they created and terrible real-life events. Interesting because comic conventions will also play a role here. ;)
YUMMY
We had already presented this Belgian film with zombies in an Eastern European beauty clinic some time ago. The flick is actually coming to our cinemas on July 23rd.
HALLOWEEN KILLS
There is only a short teaser for »Halloween Kills« which starts where Halloween ended. It's so intense, when Jamie Lee Curtis desperately shouts “Let it burn” again and again in the face of the approaching fire brigade. Unfortunately we have to wait until October 2021 for the »Halloween« sequel.
Series
STAR TREK: LOWER DECKS
Why not make the red shirts and all those low ranks the protagonists. Someone has to scrub the toilets on the Enterprise ;) The idea for this Star Trek animation series sounds really funny. But unfortunately the trailer for »Star Trek: Lower Decks« was not quite convincing. Let's see - maybe the series will be better than what trailer is showing so far.
THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY Season 2
The adaptation of the Dark Horse comic series of the same name goes into the second round. Once again, the Hargreeves siblings have to save the world from the apocalypse, only this time in the 1960s. The trailer makes us really hot for the new season. The show will be available on Netflix from July 31st.
THE BOYS Season 2
We'll also meet weird superheroes on Amazon Prime. From September 4, "The Boys" will slam again. The trailer does not hold back and is not stingy with nice gore effects. Definitely our highlight of the week.
What are you most looking forward to?
Fans of the »Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles« have every reason to be excited, because there are two new Turtles films in the pipeline!
Let's look back at the last releases from the franchise. These were the feature films »Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles« (2014) and »Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows« (2016). These live-action film adaptations, produced by Michael Bay, were not very well received by the audience. The second movie did a little better in the ratings, but the production team was anything but satisfied with the box office result. Another live-action film was planned, but Michael Bay is now out of the game for a sequel.
Luckily, they are going back to the roots of the series, so the next movie will be an animated film again! The production is to be carried out by Nickelodeon Animation Studios in collaboration with Point Gray Pictures. Behind it are Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, both professing genre fans. And we just assume that they understand the Turtles better than producer Bay.
What do you think? Are Rogan/Goldberg ablet to bring the right humor for the Turtles?
But that's not all, because another Turtles animated movie is planned for Netflix. It will be based on the Nickelodeon series »The Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles« from 2018.
So put a pizza in the oven and get ready for a full load of Turtle-Power!
The Polish developing studio CD PROJEKT RED is currently on the lead. Since the success of »The Witcher 3«, they simply cannot be stopped. Their new game »Cyberpunk 2077« which is eagerly being awaited by the community is in the starting blocks and it surely will be among the most celebrated titles of the year besides »The Last of Us 2«.
It's no wonder that NETFLIX has already reached out and is planning an animation series called »Cyberpunk: Edgerunners«. They took the Japanese animation studio TRIGGER on board. These guys will be responsible for the proper anime look of the sttings and the character design. This already sounds promising... We will see the results in 2022 - of course on Netflix!
