We still have to wait for the arrival of new cinema blockbusters... That is why there are only three smaller films on our Trailer Tuesday list. They may will find their way to us. Our focus today, however, is on some TV series that the merry month of May brings us and makes it easier for us to stay at home.
THE COLOR ROSE
An A-list girl clique starts a secret cult in their small religious town. Each of them embody one of the seven deadly sins. It all goes horribly wrong as they go missing one by one... The trailer made us curious.
MOST LIKELY TO MURDER
We stay in the genre of teenage thrillers. The trailer of this independent production promises a murderously evil cheerleading story. Let's see...
WE ARE LITTLE ZOMBIES
Four orphans form a band. The clip is wonderfully weird and oscillates eccentrically between tragedy, comedy, music film, social criticism and teenage angst.
UPLOAD
In the near future, people who are close to death can be "uploaded" in virtual reality environments. The sci-fi comedy series by Greg Daniels (The Office, Parks and Recreation) starts on May 1st (so this Friday) on Prime Video. We still add a question mark to this.
FRAGGLE ROCK: ROCK ON!
For young and young-at-heart viewers, Apple TV+ brings Jim Henson's Fraggles back to the screen. Rock on!
INTO THE NIGHT
As the sun starts to kill everything in its path, a plane full of passengers attempt to fly west into the safety of the darkness - into the Night - to escape its destructive power. The Netflix mini series starts on Friday. That looks promising!
SNOWPIERCER
In the series adaptation of the celebrated Bong Joon Ho film »Snowpiercer« we definitely hang on the hook after this trailer. The series starts on TNT in the USA on May 17 and is scheduled to appear on Netflix shortly thereafter.
HOLLYWOOD
»Hollywood« follows a group of aspiring actors and filmmakers in post-World-War-II Hollywood as they try to make it in Tinseltown - no matter the cost. Each character offers a unique glimpse behind the gilded curtain of Hollywood's Golden Age. That looks really good! Launch is already this Friday, on Netflix.
Andy Serkis, who will be directing Sony's VENOM in the sequel, has - of course extremely proud and with great anticipation - shared a very first clip of VENOM 2 on his social media channels. It only shows the official logo, the updated start date (June 25, 2021) and the very cool subtitle »Let there be Carnage«... but hey! Until we get to see something of the bad guy CARNAGE (Woody Harrelson), it will probably take some time until the first real trailer is released.
We think it'll be fun... especially since Andy Serkis is a great filmmaker - not only in front of the camera, but also behind it.
More news popped up on Disney+'s icon THE MANDALORIAN! After a late april's spoof in form of a parody trailer for season 2 which IGN dropped on Monday, »Variety« just reported that another (so the third) season of the STAR WARS show is confirmed!
It seems that Jon Favreau is already workin' on it and also the art department is creating concept designs. In our yesterday's HOME ALONE live-stream Sven and his guest Toby (@MotUDad) were talking about it :-)
Wouldn't May the 4th be the perfect day for a first, real trailer on the 2nd season of »The Mandalorian«? And imagine we would even get to see a glimpse of Ahsoka Tano... :o)
We are still far from normal. That is why - in many of our trailer discoveries - we do not know whether and when the presented movies and series will find a home in Germany.
Today we start with three games that flashed us:
OBSERVER SYSTEM REDUX
The trailer for the next-gen remake of the Bloober Team's 2017 cyberpunk horror game looks really damn cool. Rutger Hauer's participation alone is a huge plus for us here.
GEARS TACTICS
The riotous survival game comes with cool one liners and with this well-assembled trailer it really makes us hungry for the game. PC version already available from April 28th.
LITTLE HOPE
The horror game from »The Dark Pictures anthology« trumps with a lot of atmosphere and made the horror fans at the S.P.A.C.E headquarter eager to play it.
TIME WARP: THE GREATEST CULT FILMS OF ALL-TIME VOL. 1
We really hope that this documentary mini series about cult movies from »Rocky Horror Picture Show« to »The Big Lebowski« will also find its way to Germany.
THE SILENCE OF THE MARSH
The Spanish thriller with Pedro Alonso (»Money Heist«) will be available on Netflix from Wednesday on. Just to see the charismatic »Berlin« actor Alonso is worth a watch.
PROXIMITY
A young NASA scientist is kidnapped by aliens, but since no one believes his story, he's obsessed with finding evidence... Could be something - unfortunately, there's no German release date yet.
CAPONE
The film shines a light on the last chapter in Al Capone's life. He is no longer the same after he was released from prison. Now, in the 1940s, memories of his violent past are increasingly troubling him and his mental state is deteriorating. A prime role for Tom Hardy. We are sure that sooner or later this movie will find its way to the big screens in Germany.
We had feared it for quite some time, now the official confirmation was just a formality: the SAN DIEGO COMIC CON 2020 is cancelled - for the first time in the history of the SDCC! Of course this makes us sad, but the cancellation of such a highly frequented event is more than understandable. Health comes first!
We are excited about what the manufacturers / exhibitors will come up with, as plan B so to say. Maybe some kind of collaborative online convention where at least trailers are revealed, panels are held and of course product innovations are presented...?
We, as well, will consider a consolation version and not just let July pass by unnoticed. After all, this is the 50th anniversary of Comic Con! The SDCC started modestly in 1970 with 300 participants and grew over the years into one of the biggest pop-cultural events on the planet. For most of us SDCC was simply always there... No question, this birthday will be celebrated by us, even if only virtually. In this sense: SDCC 4 ever!
The rumor mill had been going on for a long time - now Sam Raimi (»Evil Dead«, »Spider-Man«) has officially confirmed it in an interview: he will take over the direction of »Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness«!
The film is supposed to be MARVEL's first horror film. We are excited to see how high the horror dose will be, because the Marvel universe is more known for offering family-friendly entertainment. We doubt that - thanks to Sam Raimi - Gore-Hounds will find their pleasure here...
One of the hottest films of the year (assuming December 17 can be held as a launch date) is without a doubt »Dune«. The first film adaptation of David Lynch had its moments but ultimately failed with critics and audiences. Now all hopes of the sci-fi fans rest on Denis Villeneuve. Good chances are that he will finally give Frank Herbert's classic a worthy adaptation.
The first photos were published via VANITY FAIR yesterday. For example, we see Timothée Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck and Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho. This first look at actors and costumes increases our anticipation for the film immensely. The stylish logo is also impressive. The music was written by Hans Zimmer - which is another reason to look forward to the movie!
And... oh man... great action figures could be made for that. Hot toys... are you listening?
Stay Home is still the order and that's why we only have previews from the small screen for you - a game, a DVD and three Netflix movies:
FALLOUT 76 - WASTELANDERS
There's an update to »Fallout 76«, called »Wastelanders«, which is supposed to iron out some weaknesses of the online game. We haven't played Fallout 76 yet, but the look of the Wastelanders trailer really appeals to us.
OUTBACK
The Australian outback can be murderous and you don't even need a Mick Taylor. This survival thriller is turning the tension screw. Watching the trailer, we are exceptionally glad that we are not allowed to travel. There is no German release date yet.
THE HALF OF IT
This Coming of Age story reminds us of the Cyrano von Bergerac story. The young actors quickly won us over (on May 1st on Netflix).
DANGEROUS LIES
When a wealthy elderly man dies and unexpectedly leaves his estate to his new caregiver, she's drawn into a web of deception and murder. The trailer for this Netflix thriller made us curious. With happy anticipation we will find out on April 30 what the film is good for.
EXTRACTION
And finally an action cracker with Chris Hemsworth. Tyler Rake is a fearless black market mercenary who embarks on the deadliest mission of his career when he’s enlisted to rescue the kidnapped son of an international crime lord. Produced by Joe and Anthony Russo (Avengers: Endgame). That makes us sit up and take notice. Available on Netflix April 24.
Slowly more and more facts are becoming known about the PlayStation 5, which is expected to be released around Christmas 2020. Yesterday, SONY made a big splash by unveiling the final design... of the controller. "Oh come on, why not the design of the console itself?" you might ask. But isn't the design, the function and the ergonomics of the controller one of the most important things? We do think so. :D
»DualShock 4« will become »DualSense« - the haptic feedback will play a decisive role. According to Hideaki Nishino (Senior Vice President, Platform Planning & Management), they for example "[...] incorporated adaptive triggers into the L2 and R2 buttons of DualSense so you can truly feel the tension of your actions, like when drawing a bow to shoot an arrow." That sounds awesome and will surely bring a whole new gaming experience!
You can certainly argue about the color scheme - we definitely think the look is very nice!
In today's Trailer Tuesday there is again a colorful mix of clips, whereby the least of it is intended for the big screen:
ENDZONE
The world has been destroyed, but we will live on!
The German publisher Assemble Entertainment presents »Endzone«, a post-apocalyptic survival building game in which you will start a new civilization with a group of people after a global nuclear disaster. The trailer looks promising, but today we're not in the mood for the apocalypse.
PENINSULA
Nothing helps, because it continues apocalyptically. »Peninsula«, the sequel to the South Korean zombie film or »Train to Busan« from 2016, looks like a real nail biter again.
OUTER BANKS
Four friends, a summer and $400 million in gold: »Outer Banks« is coming to Netflix on April 15. This coming of age story is all about a tight-knit group of local teens in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Forbidden romances, a high-stakes treasure hunt, a summer filled with mystery and adventure... Let's see if the series will be something. The trailer hasn't really convinced us yet.
LAST MOMENT OF CLARITY
After his girlfriend Georgia (Samara Weaving, »Ready or Not«) is murdered by European gangsters, Sam (Zach Avery, »Fury«) flees to Paris to hide out. Years later, he sees a woman in a Hollywood film that he is sure is Georgia. A twisty thriller in Hitchcock-style that will keep you guessing until the final frame.
RICK & MORTY
The trailer underlaid with »The boys are back in town« by Thin Lizzy really makes us want to watch the fourth season of »Rick & Morty«. The start date is May 3.
The current corona crisis is of course also affecting the film industry and is causing all originally planned cinema releases to be postponed. This also applies to Phase 4 of the »Marvel Cinematic Universe«. On April 3, DISNEY announced the updated release dates for all planned Marvel live action movies.
BLACK WIDOW will therefore be released on November 6, 2020. The debut of the new superhero team THE ETERNALS is postponed to February 12, 2021. SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS is scheduled to start on May 7, 2021. DOCTOR STRANGE IN THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS will then follow on November 5, 2021.
A previously unnamed Marvel film turns out to be the sequel to CAPTAIN MARVEL! The theatrical release is July 8, 2022. The sequels of THOR (LOVE AND THUNDER, February 18, 2022) and BLACK PANTHER (May 6, 2022) as well as another, yet untitled Marvel blockbuster (October 7, 2022) will follow in 2022.
So... according to the current state of affairs, the MCU will not be available for another seven months. So what's your recipe for superhero detox?
Without much advance notice, we rang in our STATUE SPRING SALE yesterday at the start of the month. We have checked our stocks all day long and have already put more than 60 statues into the sale. You will find collectibles from manufacturers like SIDESHOW, TWEETERHEAD, GAMING HEADS, PRIME1, TSUME and many more - all reduced by 20%! The special offer runs throughout April - of course only while stocks last. Have another look today, because DC COLLECTIBLES, WETA and DIAMOND SELECT TOYS will definitely follow.
So spring can come now... ;) Have fun shopping!
Our Product of the Month April is a no-brainer for us, since it is a real movie and horror icon: Nosferatu. With his portrayal of the ratty Count Orlok, Max Schreck has secured a place in the eternal Hall of Fame of cinema. The director Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau created one of the masterpieces of German Expressionism in 1922 with the film, which bears the subtitle "eine Symphonie des Grauens (a symphony of horror)". And what luck we had, because after a lost lawsuit with Bram Stoker's widow due to alleged copyright infringement, all copies of the film were supposed to be destroyed at that time. But some of them had already made it abroad and so this treasure of film history was preserved.
The manufacturer Quarantine Studio (strange how the name fits into the current world situation) erects a worthy monument to the bloodsucker in the form of a fantastic bust in 1/2 scale - superbly sculpted and of course artistically painted by hand. The worldwide number of copies is only 300.
We think Nosferatu is a real gem that will enhance any film and horror collection.
It feels as if the movie and series industry has sunk into (forced) disappearance. So for our Trailer Tuesday we had to dig a little deeper to bring a few interesting clips to daylight. It has not yet been determined whether and when we will be able to watch the associated films and series in Germany...
THE WRETCHED
A boy discovers a thousand-year-old witch in his neighborhood, disguised as a normal next door woman. The trailer looks quite passable. Whether May 1st can be kept as a US start date is rather questionable though.
SURVIVE THE NIGHT
Bruce Willis in a home invasion story. The wheel is certainly not being reinvented here, but the trailer looks pretty promising. The film starts as a VoD release on May 22nd in the US. Nothing is known about a German release yet.
MONEY HEIST
We don't have to introduce »Money Heist« anymore. Netflix has launched a small countdown teaser to keep us eager for this highlight. From April 3rd you can start to binge it.
DEFENDING JACOB
»Defending Jacob« is an Apple TV+ thriller series, based on the bestseller of the same name by William Landay. The minor son of a lawyer is suspected of murder. That could be something.
THE GREAT
»The Great« is a satirical, comedic drama about the rise of Catherine the Great from outsider to the longest reigning female ruler in Russia's history. The trailer of this Hulu series is already full with fantastic gags. Those who liked »The Favorite« will love »The Great«. Let's hope that the series will find its way onto the German screens.
»Deadline« recently reported that Ahsoka Tano will appear in season 2 of »The Mandalorian«. The fan favorite from »The Clone Wars« thus makes the leap into the first live-action series in the STAR WARS Universe. It has already been confirmed that Ahsoka is played by Rosario Dawson (Sin City). However, it will probably only be a relatively small guest appearance at first.
There are currently speculations whether Ahsoka Tano will get her own Star Wars live-action series. Although Disney has not yet confirmed this, we can't rule it out either, because »The Mandalorian« is the best horse in the Disney + stable. And the fact that the streaming service will offer a whole bunch of new Star Wars series is probably as certain as a double sunset on Tatooine.
It is not surprising that in the times of the Corona crisis and the lockdown of public life things are a bit calmer when it comes to movie trailers. The big studios seem to be rearranging and since nobody knows when the cinemas will re-open again, they hold back the release of new trailers. Productions were stopped or put on hold. Films that have already started such as »Bloodshot« and »Birds of Prey« will probably be released much earlier than planned for home cinema. So it happens that we can only come up with a few smaller films on our Trailer Tuesday. Maybe there are a few pearls hidden among these films.
WE SUMMON THE DARKNESS
Serial killings with a satanic background in the American Midwest. Three girls on the road trip to a heavy metal concert meet a few musicians and organize an aftershow party. As more and more corpses appear, the fun is over. That doesn't sound very original at first, but the heavy metal setting makes us cautiously optimistic.
BEHIND YOU
Two young sisters find that all the mirrors in their estranged aunt's house are hidden. When one of them finds a mirror in the basement, she unknowingly releases a malicious demon. We don't expect anything from this film. It just looks too much like dozens of well-known knitting patterns, including the inevitable jump scares.
KOKO-DI KOKO-DA
The trailer of this Swedish-Danish production seems a bit more original. A couple is terrorized in the forest by a sideshow artist and his entourage and dragged into a maelstrom of psychological terror and humiliating slapstick.
TAPE
The trailer of this indie film doesn't reveal very much yet. »Tape« is based on real events and takes place in New York City. An aspiring actress (Isabelle Fuhrman) gets to know the dark side of the entertainment industry. It is difficult to say whether the film will find its way to us. We would love to see Isabelle Fuhrman (Orphan) again.
HIPPOPOTAMUS
Ruby wakes from a bad dream to find herself in a real life nightmare. She's trapped in a basement, her legs are broken and she can't remember who she is or how she got there. Her kidnapper, Tom, tells her she will remain captive until she falls in love with him. The trailer for this film, made in the UK, looks very exciting and has definitely sparked our interest.
From tomorrow, the in-house streaming service of the media giant DISNEY will finally kick off also in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and many other European countries!
If you decided early enough, you surely was able to grab the early-bird special deal. In Germany, Disney+ is regularly available for 6,99 EUR per month. Some of the S.P.A.C.E Crew haven't been able to resist and already signed up for their subscription :o)
Of course, »The Mandalorian« is Disney+'s strongest show, but also the whole »Marvel« Universe and especially also the wonderful documentaries of the »National Geographic« will probably be very interesting for many out there.
We think that the launch of Disney+ will be very successful, especially in the current BETTER-STAY-AT-HOME times. So, to all of you who already signed up: have fun goggling :-)
As surely everyone has noticed, from today on, retail shops in most branches have to stay closed.
Since we do not run a physical store, but a pure online shop, the S.P.A.C.E headquarter will of course continue to operate "normally" as long as possible. We are of course very grateful for this and at the same time, we are appropriately careful, both at work and in our contact with each other.
Stay healthy, stay positive - but stay at home!
Your S.P.A.C.E Crew
The movie theaters are closed for now and many film premieres have been postponed to autumn. Nobody can say when we will see the films on our Trailer Tuesday list. Even though we have still a lot on the current list, this time there is no big cinema hit on it. Because we should stay better at home, binge watching and gaming is the choice. Hello dear sofa!
JUNGLE CRUISE
Disney is filming another theme park attraction with »Jungle Cruise«. That has worked well before, so why not try again. So far, however, this has not quite convinced us.
ABOUT ENDLESSNESS
Director Roy Andersson creates a cinematic reflection on human life in all its beauty and cruelty, splendor and simplicity. Looks like arthouse, but the minimalistic, monochrome trailer makes quite curious about the film.
ARKANSAS
With this crime thriller, it was once again the cast that caught our attention: John Malkovich, Vince Vaughn, Liam Hemsworth.
SOUL
A Pixar movie is always worth a visit. The new film about the music teacher Joe Gardner explores interesting existential questions. Where do our emotions, preferences and personal interests come from? What makes us what we are?
SEVEN STAGES TO ACHIEVE ETERNAL BLISS BY PASSING THROUGH THE GATEWAY CHOSEN BY THE HOLY STORSH
Claire (Kate Micucci) and Paul (Sam Huntington) are happy about their new apartment in LA. But they have to realize that their home is a popular location for suicides, because the guru Storsh (Taika Waititi) once lived here and put an end to his life in the bathtub. His followers follow his example ... That seems really strange. We are hooked.
THE THIRD DAY
The six-part HBO mystery series with Jude Law and Naomie Harris will start on May 12 in the original version on Sky Atlantic. The trailer reminds us a bit of »Wicker Man«. That could be something.
HOME BEFORE DARK
In the center of the Apple TV + series stands the nine-year-old Hilde Lisko (Brooklynn Prince), who moves from Brooklyn with her father Matthew (Jim Sturgess) to his hometown. There she tries to solve the secret of an old murder case. The young journalist convinced us in the trailer.
STAR GIRL
Another DC series starts at CW Network on May 12. Teen girl Courtney Whitmore's aka »Star Girl« teams up with the Justice Society of America to fight villains. Seems to be aimed at a younger audience.
FOLLIA DEAR FATHER
»Follia - Dear Father« is a new stealth survival horror game. The trailer is very atmospheric and really makes you want to sneak through the horror scenario. The game should appear shortly.
DOOM ETERNAL
»Doom« certainly played an important role in the socialization of many first-person shooter gamers. »Doom Eternal« calls some memories and it looks damn good. Announced for March 20.
In two days, a special exhibition called »DC All Stars« will launch at the »Toy Sapiens« store, the Japanese headquarter of HOT TOYS. All DC fans will surely get very excited, because there's a lot more to see than just loads of collectibles (and exclusives). Besides original costumes from the blockbusters »Birds of Prey«, »Wonder Woman« and »Joker« there will be a very cool photo-point, also in the »Birds of Prey« theme (incl. a sofa and Bruce, the hyena).
For us from afar it's probably the absolute brand hot reveal of these three 1/6 figures - so to say their world premiere - which is the most interesting thing: Wonder Woman (Golden Armor Version) from »Wonder Woman 1984«, Batman from »Batman Forever« and Harley Quinn from the »Batman: Arkham Knight« game.
Gladly the first images are already making their loop online. You can get some impressions in this Facebook album!
Of course we will list all these new items on our website as soon as they are open for pre-order :-)
